Unnecessarily graphic and felt like the author was just putting every crime related word or phrase they could think of just because.

More like a 3.5 this book was decent. It plays out like you'd imagine a criminal minds episode with one of their reoccurring character. It's not the most amazing story you'll come across. The name is also a bit too much on point.
We get a two perspective book. We get the Bayou Butchers perspective of killing hunting, and everything else you would expect from a serial killer. We also get to look through the perspective of a ME, who is Wren Muller. We can learn the aspects of the story of how everything is connected. What I was surprised is that the original half of the book was not completely in modern time and it was a bit more backstory than anything. Though I think that could have been better it did leave a surprising twist I did enjoy.
I say if you're looking for a quick thrill that can continue in the future read it, but don't expect a masterpiece.

Definitely felt like the work of a first time author. The prose felt stale; the author relied on familiar imagery and similes. The midpoint twist, while fun, makes very little sense. The plotting felt off; the end felt more like the author forgot to write the third act than intentionally wrote a cliffhanger.

I wanted to enjoy this but it was a struggle to get through. Definitely needed more editing, more development, and a more critical eye doing so. How do you write a story in New Orleans with basements. That’s rookie mistake number one. There is a story there somewhere I think but it’s just not well developed.
