I really loved You-Jeong Jeong's other novel, The Good Son, and I enjoyed this as well, just not as MUCH as The Good Son. It was definitely a well-plotted thriller, with interesting characters - though a very well-defined villain. The story was also set up in an interesting way, with the narrator reading the novelization of a traumatic event in his childhood written by another character, and switching between the points of view. It worked quite well. It was basically getting two books in one.

Read this if you like grey morality, family dramas, high-key villains, and ghost stories.

Taut and propulsive.

A murder of an 11 year old girl happened at Seryong Dam. Altogether with few victims due to an opening of a dam 7 years ago.The killer had been arrested and persecuted.

This thriller have many twist and turn. At first, in my thoughts this story would be revolve around Choi Sowon getting through his life as he is struggling being label as murderer son. For years he is being haunted by the accusation that seem following him everywhere he go and resulting him being rejected by his family.

And the plot getting crazier, the tragedy that happened 7 years ago is different from what being reported by media. Bit by bit, the truth reveal to Sowon as he found a written notes by Mr Ahn, Sowon's father ex-assistant.

Knowing that Oh Yongje, the father of the girl is not what his image being reflect to public. There is something about Yongje drive the story to a more darker than what being show in media.

Will Sowon learn the truth of what happened 7 years ago? Can he be free from the accusation that lingering around him for too long?
slow-paced

This book was so boring that it put me in a reading slump for MONTHS. Never been so happy to finish a book.

I have mixed feelings after I finished reading Seven Years of Darkness.

Since the book focuses on psychological thriller, the writer writes in-depth about 3 main characters; Choi Hyonsu, Oh Yongje, Ahn Sunghwan.

I do enjoy the emotional arc between the main characters where all 3 of them play mouse and cat game after a girl is found dead in Seryong lake.

One mistake can affect your life, in fact, it can destroy your whole family members. This precisely describes Choi Hyonsu's action.

I hate Y*****e , he's smart and a manipulative dentist.

This book is not as intense and disturbing as The Good Son, but still, the story is crazy and amazing and full of twists.
