The Passage

Justin Cronin

3.95 AVERAGE

I really enjoyed this book and couldn't put it down. It felt similiar and yet very different from other apocalyptic fiction I have read. I loved the first third of the book, the whole story of how the virus was obtained, the testing of it on death row inmates to create the Twelve, and then the near end of civilization. The rest of the book takes place nearly 100 years after the outbreak with a whole new set of characters. The characters in this book feel like real people, which is probably why I liked it so much. I also like how the virals are not just extremely dangerous "monsters" (though, they are definitely that), but seem to have some semblance of their previous human life within them. Very interesting book and I cannot wait to read the next one.

WOW. I don't even know what to say. That is one roller coaster of a book!

Vampires are pretty cool. Vampires with a little bit of extra zip to them are even cooler. The Passage does have some of the normal tropes that might give you a little apprehension when you come across them. However, there are a lot of things offered here that more then makes up for it. I'm on to the second audio book and I'm pretty stoked.

loved it! couldn't put it down, even though it gave me nightmares. If you like epics and zombies/vampires read it and the sequel, The Twelve.

a disturbing book of post acopalypse and vampires -- just what I never read. But this writer has produced a riveting book with believable characters in a well thought out and developed endeavor to save their civilization against overwhelming forces...Look forward to seeing if they can persevere in the follow up book

I really wanted to like this book. I watched the tv show that was based on this book, and even though it was cancelled after one season, I kind of liked it. But the book....the book....It was unnecessarily long and boring. There were too many characters that I was supposed to like and root for, I guess, but I couldn't care less...The basic idea of the story was great, but not much happened in the book. And the tv show only covered a very small part of the plot. If they would ever decide to make another season, I would whatch it, but I don't think I'll be able to make myself read the other two books ever.
