First audiobook of the year (I think?)! Amy got into some pretty serious things in this as well as an overabundance of her sex life. I'm not sure how I would have felt about this if I had read it before Mindy's and Amy Poehler's books, because it paled in comparison to theirs.
I truly enjoyed listening to Amy read her book. She made me laugh a lot. I also felt sorry for her at times. I loved the rawness.
Amy Schumer's comedy can sometimes come on a little strong, sometimes seeming like she wants to just shock you. But this book shows her vulnerability, depth (or lack of it as she tells it), her grit and tenacity. I especially appreciated her honest and heart-rending telling of how she got in a physically and emotionally abusive relationship and how love and trust have always been difficult for her because of her parents. She shares how having an ill father keeps death ever-present in her life. She honestly portrays how it feels for most women to continually slide between feelings of self-confidence and self-doubt (especially when it comes to our looks). She leans toward the self-confidence side as much as possible and encourages us all to do the same. If you enjoyed this book I would also recommend "You'll Grow Out of It" by Jessi Klein and "Official Book Club Selection" by Kathy Griffin. I recommend listening to the audiobook, because it is much easier to pick up on her sarcasm.
This was such an amazing book! I love how real Amy Schumer was in her writing. I love how she did not hold back on anything and I love to so many of the messages that she had battling for herself but also for any young woman find themselves doubting themselves at any point in life. This book made me laugh, and made me cry, and it made me want to learn how to love myself a little better. And if she ever reads this review, I just want to say thank you for writing this book.
I was not expecting to cry listening to this book. Amy is honest and empowering as she shares stories of her pass.
Well done Amy, you have touched me and are so much more than your standup comedy.

"Each place was just a temporary stop on the road to getting me where I wanted to be. I never quit moving and I didn't bother getting too comfortable because I wanted to be ready for whatever came next."My first thought after finishing listening to this: "I didn't expect to love this so much!"
Let me start by saying that I had seen some videos of Amy's stand-ups and some of her interviews online and thought that she was funny.
I like down to earth people and she seemed like one. So, I picked her biography expecting to have a few laughs. I didn't expect what came next, Amy talks about everything: her parents, her sex life and her fame. She bares her soul. And none of the things she opens up about were easy to talk about. There are so many aspects in her life that I didn't know: her dad's illness, or that she was a victim of abuse multiple times. She is a brave, brave woman. So many of her words rang true and I highlighted multiple passages on the text (yes halfway in the audio I went ahead and bought the kindle too).
She is by no means perfect, and we should never expect her to be.

None of us are.
But that is one hell of a beautiful woman with every meaning of the word.
I feel like I have a friend. One that I will probably never meet, but one that I know so much about, like we have known each other for years.
So by picking this up, expect to both laugh and cry, and in the end embrace Amy for who she is. Amy.
I hope sincerely that her star continues to shine for years long to come.
"I know my worth. I embrace my power. I say if I'm beautiful. I say if I'm strong. You will not determine my story. I will. I'll speak and share and fuck and love and I will never apologize for it. I am amazing for you, not because of you. I am not who I sleep with. I am not my weight. I am not my mother. I am myself. And I am all of you."I can't wait to see what she and Jennifer Lawrence will cook up.

I downloaded this as an audiobook from the library because it showed up on my main page and it was available right away. So I was pleasantly surprised when it turned out to be an enjoyable, interesting, and funny listen.
I love Amy Schumer's standup. I love Inside Amy Schumer. I loved Trainwreck. This? I did not love it. I need to stop buying autobiographical books written by people under 40. They don't have much to say about their lives and there's too much filler and it gets boring.
enjoyed this a surprising amount. she's not my favourite comic but she has actually had quite an interesting life, & i thought she wrote in a relatable & insightful, but not preachy way. came away from this reading with a lot more respect for her. also very funny in quite a few spots.
