I really enjoyed this book! Though the chapters were somewhat disjointed at times, I appreciated all of Amy’s reflections, honesty, and vulnerability. I learned a lot about her life and gained newfound respect for her.
This was an interesting beach read. Depending on the chapter, I might get strange looks [because I'd randomly burst out laughing] or looks of concern [because Amy's struggle to help her father battle MS broke my heart and I started crying]. I loved Schumer's "no holds barred" approach to telling her story and the self-confidence she both exudes and encourages!
There were some interesting bits and since I listened to it, I really enjoyed hearing her vocal inflections telling the story. But it wasn’t wowed and I don’t think I laughed at all.
I listened to the audiobook. I liked it more than I thought I would. I appreciate her a lot more now, just knowing more about her. I didn't really laugh (which I think she was going for) but she was honest and vulnerable and spoke to some important issues, and I appreciated that.
It started off well, then got depressing and incredibly preachy. I couldn't handle the preachy and struggled to get to the end. Now I'm done and I want those hours spent listening to the audiobook back.
SO GOOD. It was raw, and real, and easily relatable.

Amy Schumer is a household name after her Emmy-winning TV show Inside Amy Schumer and her blockbuster hit Trainwreck. Amy started her career with stand-up comedy, and her signature tone is present throughout the book as the gives an honest account of some of the not-so-glamorous parts of her life. From sexual assault to gun violence to emotional and physical abuse, Amy has unfortunately been exposed to a lot in her journey to the top. Though her book is entertaining, it is a sobering example of how humor can be used to deflect from pain. This book was Amy’s personal story about the hurdles she has overcome and how she has become stronger and wiser in the experience, learning to love herself despite her faults.
Amy Schumer is my kind of girl. I love laughing along to every new episode of her TV show and can appreciate a good R-rated joke when I hear one. However, even if I wasn’t as big of a fan of hers, I think this book would still be appealing: it tells the story of a strong woman who wasn’t always confident and learned to accept her shortcomings and power through the tough times in her life.
It’s a tale of hardship. It’s a tale of forgiveness. And with Amy’s unique ability to put a funny spin on her stories, it’s an altogether entertaining story as well as a sobering one. I can’t recommend this book enough.
Get the audiobook version. Amy Schumer narrates it herself, and it’s definitely worth it to hear the stories coming straight from her mouth.

Funny! Enjoyed listening to this while on my long walks.
