Amy Schumer is willing to take risks, even here. This is not a laugh old loud book, though there was some laughs, but a memoir seen through the lens of Schumer's feminism--topics including self esteem, body shame, and relations between men and women. I felt like I was getting somewhat of a window into heterosexual women of the next generation--the ways they subvert their own interests and needs for intimate partners, the ways they come to love themselves and escape bad treatment and come into their own as women. Very good. I would be happy to make scones for Amy anytime.
(2.5)Had I not listened to this as an audiobook, I'm not sure I would've finished it. Entertaining, but redundant.
Audiobook – I picked this book up on a whim, because it was popular. I wasn’t particularly interested in Amy’s life, but I thought that I would give this book a try. I found this book hard to get into, in the beginning. I was shocked by some of the things in this book and that’s what kept me going. I don’t think there was anything wrong with the writing, but some chapters were lacking. I’m not sure how to rate a memoir, because it’s someone’s story. If you’re interested, give it a try. I also haven’t read a lot of memoirs, so I don’t have a lot to compare this to.
Very funny. The author promised me that I "wouldn't learn anything" from this book but she was wrong. I certainly did. Some of what I learned is that I don't want to be a creep like her ex boyfriends. I also have a strong desire to be a better father than her father.
I know, not a high bar based on the stories that she tells.
I do want to be a better person for the people that I love and that is enough of a lesson for me to recommend this book to just about anyone.

I like Amy Schumer a lot. I like how she’s smart, funny and outspoken. I like that she’s built like a normal woman and is proud of her body. I like that she’s determined and confident and hard working. Her jokes can be a little crude but then she says something like this:
“...I’ve experienced a lot desperation and self-doubt but in a way, I’ve come full circle. I know my worth. I embrace my power. I say if I’m beautiful. I say if I’m strong. You will not determine my story. I will. I’ll speak and share and fuck and love, and I will never apologize for it. I am amazing for you, not because of you. I am not who I sleep with. I am not my weight. I am not my mother. I am myself. And I am all of you.”
And that resonates so much louder and clearer than a gross sex joke. This book is a series of essays about snippets of her life, some of which were pretty dark. She writes about her father’s MS, being raped and in an abusive relationship, sexism, and gun violence. She’s got a lot of haters but I’m glad Amy is around. Let’s show girls that they can be smart, confident, outspoken and stand for what they believe in. I think the world could use more Schumers, Kalings, Feys, Poehlers, and Dunhams.

This was a book that was given to me as a prize, and I was initially disappointed and didn't want it.
But despite never being a huge Amy schumer fan, I loved this book. It's less a comedy book than a memoir with funny parts and politics mixed in. So if you're looking for laugh after laugh, this isn't the book.
But Schumer has a strong voice and gives good advice as a strong women who's been through some things. Recommend.

Much better than I thought it was gonna be. Amy gets a bad rap nowadays, but this book is so personal that it truly gives you a better understanding of the person Amy is.
This was a lot less funny than I thought it would be, but entertaining nonetheless. If you like her stand up you will enjoy this book.
