I never watched Amy Schumer's show but I loved Trainwreck. I thought I'd really like this memoir but it's not funny at all or cohesive. In fact, I didn't laugh once. It's really a series of meandering essays in random order that each turn into a PSA. Gun control, domestic abuse, alcohol and drug abuse, rape, and on and on...
One second, Amy is referring to herself as Long Island Trash and then explaining how much she loves herself. She's truly been through hell but, as she self describes, she's a hypocrite and flaky and she reaffirmed that quite often. We're from the same neck of the woods and she refers to her adventures in my hometown quite often and I was almost offended by the end of it.
I didn't dislike her but I don't like her any more than before after reading this book.

I love audiobooks when they are read by the author especially autobiographies. She is so funny and her stories, like her comedy specials, are raunchy, real, relatable and hilarious.

What stuck with me about this one was how deeply affected Schumer seemed by the shooting at the movie theater that was showing her movie.
Comedian autobiographies are my workout jam apparently, listened to this over the course of a few gym visits this past week. Amy’s led a really interesting life, and connected with her unwavering (although not always practical) love of New York. Recommend the audiobook read by the author!
Hilarious, heartfelt, deep and relatable. I had no idea that I have so much in common with Amy. She talks about everything from her favorite stuffed animals to gun safety to women's sexuality to some darker periods in her life and the impact it has on her today. The structure felt meandering and more than a little unorganized but that made it feel like you were chatting with an old friend. Overall this was an excellent, funny book.

I really enjoy memoirs - especially of people not much like me. I think I enjoy both the peek at a different world and the moments where I see a connection between us that shows that we aren't all that different after all. I liked spending this time with Amy. She's the person I wish I was as well as the person I'm fervently glad I'm not.
Generally speaking I liked it. Some chapters were a little disjointed in flow but for the most part she actually used her stance and platform to say things.
Some chapters were uglier than others. How she lost her virginity was pretty terrible but she used her story to speak out on abuse, along with being in an abusive relationship. I skipped ahead and couldn't understand why there was a gun list at the back of the book and to vote for gun safety. She wrote a chapter about a movie theater shootout while Trainwreck was playing. Her dad and MS, like this book had equal parts humor and equal parts tragic shit. The chapters on her spending extreme amounts of money being rich and her stuffed animals should have been left out.
I wouldn't easily recommend it if you want FUNNY MEMOIR, but it had its moments. A lot of sad moments too, but the honesty and the way she's chosen to deal with past events is admirable.
Minus a star for cancelling her tour this year for my city. I had tickets.
