Hilarious, real, and at times inappropriate, but all in all, empowering in a way that reminds you that its ok to be you in all your flawed, imperfect, vulnerable ways!

I enjoyed this book way more than I expected. I don’t think I would have liked it as much if I read it myself. Hearing Amy’s voice as she reflected on being a child of divorce, clawing her way to the top of the stand up circuit, and dealing with all the things women go through made me appreciate her stories even more. I loved how honest and open she was with her struggles and successes. I highly recommend the audio book.

A good read

Nothing earth shattering but I like Amy's voice and happily enjoyed her stories. She is a great story teller and obviously loves the people in her life. Honesty and relatable.

3.5

3.5 stars. The chapter about her dad who has MS was quite relatable to my experiences with a dad who had Parkinson's. Stories about her childhood, experiences in comedy, being in an abusive relationship, gun control.

I didn't know what t expect when I got this book but I am a fan of her since I think she's funny as hell, & like her show about learning to cook (her husband is an award winning chef). This book is really not what you expect it to be. Amy shares so much about her life, & it is not all fun & games but almost vulnerable which makes you connect w/ her in a more profound way. It was really well done on how she gets to where she is as a famous comedian. The ride is definitely filled w/ bumps, hurdles & brick walls even. The various things she faced in her life is basically like everyone else, & that's what makes this book so enjoyable, her reality & being able to connect w/ her. There are definitely some surprising & even astounding things that you don't expect her to share but she's transparent & honest about it. So go for it, you'll get a kick out of it & also see Amy in a new light that you weren't expecting. I can't wait to read more.

I was prepared to love this book. And I did! Made me laugh out loud and found her so relatable with the heartfelt moments. Loved it!

Favorite quotes:
When talking about bad breath: 'it was probably only five minutes, but when you're in the panic room of someone's dragon mouth the clock really stops.'

About an unintelligible woman: 'She'd mumble something that sounded like it would only make sense in the Shire, and laugh wildly to herself and slap her knee.'

'I faked falling in a dirt pile to get out of running a mile in gym class. I lay in the dirt until someone found me.'

'What's wrong with being alone anyway? Being alone is sometimes a great place to be, but people are always trying to correct this 'problem' for you, even if you yourself don't have any kind of problem with it.'

'But it still seems worthwhile to suspend my disbelief for as long as I can -to keep myself open to accepting love - and to give mine every day.' <3

Listened to as audio book was really awesome with Amy reading her own words.

I enjoyed this book which felt more like a collection of personal essays than a memoir.
