I guess it was more of a 3 and a half stars, but I rounded down. It started out hilarious but I got bored after awhile. It was kind of repetitive. I think listening to it was better because she was the one reading it. Overall, I love Amy!

This book left me with a significant unanswered question: Why would anyone from out-of-state go to Towson University?

I really related to this.

Like everyone else, I like Amy Schumer (EXCEPT for that leather special. That was not good.) However, I’ve seen this book pop up on the “available now” section of the audiobooks, and didn’t really care to read it. I really only checked it out because I gave up/switched to an ebook on my last audiobook and didn’t feel like looking very hard. This was on page one. Also, 7 sections didn’t seem that bad.

So I went into it pretty ambivalent...and if I had quit after the first 2 sections of the book, I would have come out feeling the same.

There are a lot of things that I just didn’t relate to, but I feel like the main redeeming factor of this book, which could have ended up being just more droll of Amy’s standup, could be the openly honest and raw chapters. Okay, so then why the 3 stars? Well i found myself skipping some chapters I wasn’t interested in at the end, so that really dragged the rating down.

awesomely funny, with some serious tones.

I will read the memoir of virtually any funny lady. Schumer's stands out from the pack in that it didn't seem to have being funny as its primary goal. Of course there were moments where I found myself laughing out loud, but huge swaths of the book were devoted to topics like rape and gun violence. I appreciated the surprise that this book was mostly empathetic, searching, and pleading on a number of issues Schumer tackles in her show. Of course, there were some tone-deaf moments as well (i.e. two distinct jokes about "needing a burka"), but I put the book down feeling inspired by Schumer's ability to reckon with challenging issues, including those contrary to her initial reactive impulses.

I thoroughly enjoyed myself while reading this book. I actually found that I identified with her thoughts on being an introvert. It is perfectly me. I laughed out loud and I remembered why I like Amy Schumer. Seeing her live was one of the funniest events I've ever attended. A few of her jokes were in this book, which I enjoyed.

3.5 stars. Don’t really know much of AS’s work. Really only chose the book because I needed something to listen to immediately and it was available. But it was a nice surprise. Not a huge fan of poop humor, so some of her more, um, intimate jokes didn’t really hit me. But I loved loved loved what she was saying about finding her own strength and confidence. All women should love and pity our 18 year old selves. And I appreciated the depth of her work into the cause she cares about most. Inspiring, even though it didn’t necessarily fit among the anal sex chapters. I did love how she accepts herself as a messy, complicated person — and that makes those chapters fit together — and for that she earned the last star. Oh, and the family relationships. Wow. I do wish that I could have a friendship with my siblings the way she does hers.
