Ugh, this was so so bad. I cannot count how many times I wanted to scream 'just fucking lie!!!!". Just fucking lie and all this mess doesn't happen. What is this idiotic decision making and 'oh no you cannot lie in court (because apparently you'll be struck by lightning or smth the moment you do); instead let everyone know that you KNOW this horrible secret and live your life in fear forever, that's much better than one fucking tiny lie'. UGH.

My first Grisham novel and it was a disappointment.

John Grisham is a Master. He writes books that the rest of our efforts are compared to, and it's not fair, but his books are so much fun to read.

There are only a few books that I have read twice. The Client was one of them. I wanted to review one of his books. I could have chosen The Pelican Brief or The Painted House or the Firm or any of the others.

In The Client, like the others, the reader is gripped from the opening pages. He develops characters that we come to care about.

William Faulkner in his address on winning the Nobel Prize said that a writer must write about the "verities and truths of the heart, the old universal truths lacking which any story is ephemeral and doomed – love and honor and pity and pride and compassion and sacrifice."

John Grisham does that. The Client is a good example of his wonderful writing.

This book made me question my entire future.

My first John Grisham book and I loved it! I will be reading more of his books in the future. Highly recommend this book!

Overall it isn't all that special. Nothing surprising happens at all, the drama is obvious, the ending is excessive. The pace swings between being a little too slow and a little too fast. Some of the characters have the potential to be interesting but only the main two are given any opportunity to show it. But, despite all of that, the book remains good in a way that I find difficult to place. It just flows, smoothly and comfortably, like those little trams that take you between the gates at an airport. It's pleasant in a way that you both love and barely notice, and as soon as you walk away you forget the whole thing happened at all. That's what The Client is like.

This book had a bad case of the repeats. Lots and lots of repeated words, phrases, and even character conversations until I thought I might lose my mind. If the book had been shortened by about 200 pages, I think it would have benefited.

Also, the narrator had a mumble-mouth and a lot of the side character’s names were completely lost to me. Still have no idea who any of the FBI agents are.

A little disappointed since I remember loving The Rainmaker so much but I’m not ready to give up!

it was a page-turner read . i loved it all in all .

I really liked the plot, characters and the pacing of the book. It was really exciting, especially towards the end.
As likeable as the two main characters are, I think they acted really stupidly at some sections of the book. Also, Mark acted and reacted much bigger than his age, which made the book less beliveable.
