If Jack Torrance wasn't already dead I'd kill him myself.
I should start by saying that I've managed to live 27 years without seeing the film and, surprisingly, not knowing what happened in the plot at all. I have never read a Stephen King novel prior to this one. As a fan of the horror genre (at least in film), I figured it was pretty disgraceful that I hadn't fixed any of this until now. I will say that the only expectations I had was the positive comments I had heard from others and the insistence that I would like it. I'm pretty happy that I got to go into it blindly. This book is .amazing.
It's been awhile since I've read a novel that not only enraptures me with an addicting plot, but has been crafted by a writer that understands style, progression, foreshadowing. There were times when I stopped to reread a sentence just because it was rendered so poetically. King manages to utilize motifs in a way I haven't been able to fangirl over since novels introduced to me in literature courses. The details given to characters, even minor, made me empathize at their lowest moments.
King manages to take things that shouldn't be frightening, like "scary bushes" and fire extinguishers, and gives them creepy new life. The foreboding in every chapter was delicious. I couldn't put it down. A large part of the general spooky of the novel was having a 5 year old protagonist. Segments written in his point of view were masterfully crafted.

Loved it... I'll be re-watching the movie now :) Though my first thoughts were that the book had three main characters while the movie one.
What I liked about the book is the focus on the three main character that are strained at the Overlook hotel. We have enough time to get acquainted with Jack, and his slow descendant to madness, the caring mother and the wonderful Danny that shines.
I enjoyed the creepiness in the book, the psychology behind it, the love of the parents and a child's love for the parents, how it all blows up...

Loved it. Would’ve been extra great if the usage of the word “REDRUM”wasn’t already vastly integrated in lots of media… would’ve been an epic and scary reveal when you realise what it means… but alas. Sorry if that spoiled anything for future readers. Yep loved it yeah! Apparently the movie is really different though so that’s kind of disappointing. Maybe they should do a remake yeahhh. Bye
