At the beginning the pace of this book is soooooo slowwww. However, once it finally picked up I was very invested in anything. I was expecting to give this a lower rating but the way the ending wrapped everything up made me give it a 4.

The book did some interesting things--especially toward the end--but unfortunately, there were big chunks of boring narrative that did not endear the main character to the reader. By the time the interesting reveals happened, it just wasn't enough to save the experience. It's certainly not a bad book (the writing is fine), but it's dull to read in a lot of places.

The story was 4.75 stars, but the character Jack was 5 stars! I know this is a hot take because I’ve read that many people hate Jack. I really enjoyed Jack as the complex, damaged, selfish, unreliable, focus of the story. Trying to constantly figure out whether he was lying at any given moment was fun for me. The story was very creative and original, but was a bit choppy.
