I know writers who use subtext and they’re all cowards.
A fun if on the nose romp, the gore and ghosts are very affecting and the action and mystery really pull you along. Only reason it isn’t a 4 is once the basic shape of the answer is revealed the ending drags on for ages.

This was probably the most horrifying fiction novel I have read in the last ten years. I can't say much without spoiling, but the book very much takes place at our current moment in time technologically and socially. This is used to brilliant effect.

A decent horror book. Mostly paranormal horror until about halfway, then it does get a bit gory. The protagonist is an absolute shit, but not in a completely cartoonish way. Ending was a bit predictable.

If you could combine all of the paranormal and haunted movie tropes, throw in a healthy amount of gore and shock value, and just an absolute mindbender in the end this one’s it.

Starts off well but has a semi predictable ending

Interesting concept to form a book around a book detailing a sceptics encounter with the supernatural. My issue was about halfway through the book figuring out some of the ending, luckily not all so the end wasn't completely disappointing.

I think most will enjoy Jackson Sparks adventure and it won't take too long to read.

All the supernatural threads set up in the story pay off in a pretty satisfying way. I’m also a sucker for unreliable narrators. My only complaint would be that some things get a little over-explained.

More of a 3,5 star read. It was a creepy and disturbing read. And as Jack portraited as a self-centered jerk, I felt pity for him in some parts.
