The character was so so so unlikeable (he is meant to be) that I had to force myself to pick the book back up to read it every time. Definitely some good spooks at the end but it took SO LONG to get to them and by that point I was just confused about the whole storyline so it took away from the scares.

I was surprised to see lower ratings on this book. First and foremost, the unreliable narrator format is done very well. The supernatural aspects of this book unsettled me in a way that I find most supernatural books fail to. The ending sequence feels like a fever dream. The depictions of addiction, while sad, feel very accurate and add another layer of complexity to the book. This is one of my favorite horror reads thus far. It is a refreshing addition to the genre.

A weird one. Great premise that is strong for 3/4 then descends into insanity and is easy to lose the plot. Lots of fun moments though!

Another good found footage book. This time about a man who’s a world famous atheist who wants to find proof of life after death as research for his new book. From here we see the rest of the book show his findings, YouTube videos, and tweets that show his progress and help us find out what happened to Jack Sparks as we see his last few days. Similar to Head Full of Ghosts, this book does a good job of keeping you on your toes about what’s really on. This was also an interesting commentary on the internet and social media and how it affects our lives and can alter perspectives on reality. On the whole, this was a pretty fun read.

At first I thought this was going to be like House of LEaves when they into'd that cloakroom but it was not at all like that.

Following a journalist's last days and his mission to prove that the supernatural does not exist we dive deep into his ego and overconfidence. It was interesting to read his experts and then the experts of folks he had interviewed and see those differences.

This book wrapped up with a ton of full circle moments and "so that's what was happening". I did enjoy it and wanted to know how it ended.

I will say the ending came sooner than I thought it would. Like, I finished the last page and turned to the next and there was the author's note and I was surprised.

If you like a descent into madness, gore, and some cringey moments this may be a good book for you
