had never heard of jack sparks. Incredible story…. Even if it is wholly fabricated. Well done Mr Arnopp!

I thought this book was very well written. I really enjoyed the use of unreliable narrators, and how the story itself was written in a very real tone. It wasn't wasnt like reading a story, but living in the thoughts of that character. It wasn't scary in the sense of jumpscares or what most would consider generally creepy, but some parts were enough to make your skin crawl. Especially with progression and the realization that came with it.

I loved how the story was written in pieces, while the bigger picture really came out to play in the end. Made you feel just as insignificant as the character in the end. It made for a very interesting and attention grabbing read.

lol Jack Sparks sucks. Should have stuck with cocaine.

I thought this was a lot of fun! Definitely goes from 0-100 there at the end

Creepy, campy, dark comedy fun! I listened to this on audiobook, and it was made all the better by narrator Joe Jameson with his fantastic command of voice acting.

Classic 70s religious horror (think The Omen or The Exorcist) gets a makeover for the social media age. It's entertaining, positively zips along, and is also very cleverly constructed - the final pages artfully tie up all kinds of dangling loose ends. Highly enjoyable.

3.5-4 Stars - I can't decide and you don't care!

Anyway, first thing I loved about this book was how I hated the main character. He was so well-written and believably an a-hole and I loved it! A less-skilled author would have made this character an absolute strawman, but Jack Sparks was a believable a-hole - we come across his kind every day on the internet, people belligerently cemented into their open-minded beliefs because anything otherwise would make them dark-aged neanderthals, right? Ok that was straw-manning, but I'm not the author and I hope you get the point.

The story is definitely interesting. After witnessing an exorcism, Jack Sparks goes on a mission to disprove the paranormal. He's a staunch, unrelenting atheist who lets NOTHING get in the way of science. Things start to get weird and creepy along the way. As much as he tries to avoid the allure of the paranormal, he gets sucked in.

Despite the interesting story, it did wind up "fizzling" a little bit towards the end in a way reminiscent of "meh" horror movie, BUT it's still worth a read if you're looking for something different in the horror-paranormal genre.

Amazing. Highly recommended. A great, spooky sleep-away camp ghost story that will keep you thinking well after the last page. In fact, I need to read it again.

This has so many of my favorite horror tropes in it, but somehow fell flat? For it's length, this feels arduous as we get to know an incredibly shitty character who constantly lies. When shit hits the fan, it's a bit underwhelming. Stuff happens and it's clear why but omg is he awful. I'm a compassionate person though, so the idea of him breaking free of this shit storm was still appealing to me, even as the extent of what he was up against became increasingly clear. Jack is a complete bitch, but to his credit, he seems like a doll when compared to one character in particular. I think this book pissed me off so I'll leave it at that.

Side note: Why tf does Jack remind me of Anthony Bourdain? I really enjoyed Bourdain's work, but I couldn't stop picturing him as annoying ass Jack. Sorry to that man. Seriously.
