GORGEOUS illustrations and story!! I LOVE this book so much. A wonderful addition to the growing number of books featuring characters of color with a heartwarming message to boot: sometimes the best things aren’t found, they’re made. A great book to read with any littles that love mermaids, spunky characters or life under the sea. Highly recommend!

The artwork is fantastic, the story is...not great. I mean, it's fine, just fine, but the plot doesn't flow like the author seemed to be aiming for. Anyway, it might still make for a nice present, because again, the artwork is beautiful.

The first thing that caught my eye about this book was the art style. And every page of this book was a delight to look at. So much is conveyed in each picture.

I liked the main character Oona and what we learn about her and Otto through the story. The one thing that just took me out of the story was not being able to understand why she couldn't get something, and how her solution wasn't something she couldn't have done from the very beginning.

wanted to like this more than I did. I had issues with the logistics of the plot -- how things were stuck and how tools were supposedly used, which kept me distracted

This is a delightful mermaid story that shows that money truly isn't everything.
