I can't get past the corn!!!!!
However, I will try again soon!
However, I will try again soon!
Journalistic, documentary-type approach to our food systems. Engaging and relatable, informative and empowering.
Audiobook. Thirteen unabridged CDs are a bit exhausting. The reader has a a lecturing, judgemental tone, which is jarring if you've ever heard Michael Pollan's affable, wondering voice.

not a page turner. Interesting at times, painstakingly slow at others. Preachy at times. He spends so much time slowly building a case against corn and modern day farming and food production, but then never quite makes a case. The book takes an odd turn focused on his efforts to produce a meeting completely from hunting and gathering. While mildly interesting, he left me asking where the solutions were. What could the average person on a budget do to not be a part of the problem.
Challenging and thought provoking. Reading this book with 8th graders has been good for generating discussion. We all agreed this book is both horrifying and eye-opening…when you know where your food comes from, you are slightly grossed out. This is more than GMOs…this book exposes the reality of the true cost of how our food makes it from the farm, to the market and then to our tables. Hopefully it encourages folks to change some eating habits (it did for me.)
