A solid handbook of advice for directors hampered by its paternalistic writing style and the author's tendency to micro-manage. I do think there is a lot of genuinely useful information in this book, there are just some moments where it becomes apparent that this was written by someone who was perhaps a bit too involved in some areas he shouldn't have been (the big one is the section on costume fittings).

Best management book I've ever read. Oh, and also a great resource if you want to be a great director.

a really valuable resource--inspiring and practically. maybe a little touchy feely for my tastes at times but I love his respect for actors.
