An emotional and heartbreaking journey with a hard fought HEA. Poor broken boy West had been through so much trauma and Jackson ended up stepping up to be the best source of support & love for him all while going through his own difficult journey along the way. I loved their relationship development and also appreciated the realistic portrayal of cPTSD.

Audio Review: Burned and Bound
Written by A. Winchester
Narrated in by Evan Parker and Jonathan Lake
A celebration of hope across the backdrop of despair. West and Jackson are a celebration of the human spirit. From courageous to emotional, Winchester, Parker and Lake turn the shadows of darkness to an illumination of hope.

Burned & Bound is heavy. I knew going into this story that it was going to be an emotional ride and it definitely was. West's story is heartbreaking, raw, dark, and so tragic. I had such deeply emotional feelings for what happened to him. The trauma he experienced and his trauma responses were so real and I feel like A. Winchester did an incredible job portraying PTSD and not only how it affects the person suffering, but those around them as well.
I was all in for Jackson. The second he found out what happened to West, everything changed and he did everything that he could to provide a supportive presence and to ensure that nobody around them did anything that would trigger West. Even during their intimate interactions, Jackson was so attuned to West and did everything he could to ensure that West felt safe and I loved that so much for him. Jackson truly was the perfect man for West and the progress and relationship development between the two was beautiful. I think the safe, caring, loving space that Jackson provided really helped West work towards their future and gave him the strength and power to do what was necessary to heal.
The dual narration by Evan Parker and Jonathan Lake really brought out the deeply emotional parts of the story and their inflections really conveyed the raw depth of pain, trauma, and the emotional responses that both West and Jackson had. Their performances were both exceptional and really help the listener to feel the emotions of the characters.

Great narration. Loved their voices.
This was deeply emotional and intense at points. West had been through the wringer of life and is now back in his home town that he swore he would never come back to. He had a past FULL of trauma. Jackson is a celebrity bull rider who is running his families Ranch in the off season and his explain best friend is now being forced to work the ranch.
Through forced proximity and lots of patience on Jacksons side of things these two reconnect. There were times it felt a bit dragging but the author gave tons of details to develop the story and characters.

So, if I could rate this higher than five stars this would definitely be the book that gets that. You know how people talk about their six star books? This is one of them. This one will stick with me for a long time. Probably be one of those I will want to be buried with.
West and Jackson have to go through literal hell and back to get where they truly deserve to be. When A. Winchester said this is a mental health book she was not kidding in the slightest.
West, this man, the trauma he deals with the things he has to endure every day is absolutely heart wrenching, but he does it. There is literally so much I could say on the things that West goes through but I think you need to read it yourself and see just exactly why this book is a six star read for me. But I will leave you with this on West ‘because if you survive your worst days you can survive it all’ and this man? He did it.
Jackson, don’t get it twisted he has his own trauma he has to make it through and his own demons. The way he loves West? That man would 100% walk through fire for him.
I ended this book with 275 highlights and notes. Is it excessive? Probably, BUT, is it absolutely necessary for me to have that many? With this book? Yup.
So if you made it through my whole review and think this books something you want to take the chance on, download it, buy it, purchase the physical copy of it, I PROMISE you will devour it just as I did.
