The house in the Cerulean Sea es uno de esos libros.

This book is close to being perfect. Yet for me, I had so much fun with it that I couldn't put it down and thus can't rate it lower than 5 stars. The best way I can describe this book is that it unfolds like a family animated movie. I'm not kidding. It is fairytale-like and silly. It is full of pure, childish whimsy and it is full of so much heart. When I first started reading this book, I couldn't help but feel that it had the same charm as old Tim Burton movie.
Linus Baker starts off in an awfully bleak world full of monotony in a job that discourages individuality and does not tolerate any sort of error. It feels like a job inclined to keep its employees as miserable as possible. But then his life is turned around when he is sent to the island of Marsyas to investigate an orphanage housing six magical children. There he gets to meet Arthur Parnassus, the master of the orphanage, and the love story that unfolds between them is so sweet. But it's not just a love story between Linus and Arthur, it is also a platonic and familiar love story between Linus and the children he meets at this orphanage.
Slowly, these children begin to change how Linus views the world and his place in it, and what was supposed to be a highly classified investigation turns into an absolutely adorable found family tale that honestly gave me cavities at multiple points.
Perhaps what was most thrilling for me to witness is how Linus goes from an absolute coward, just going on with his lot in life, to a strong individual once he finds something truly worth living for. It gives him courage, and it was so amazing to see that growth in him.
This story, for me, evokes similar feelings to how I feel watching The Sound of Music. It was just an honest to goodness adorable journey that tackles themes of prejudice and surrounding yourself with a supportive community, and I just could not sing its praises enough.
My only gripe with this book is that this was the "Linus sighing" simulator and after several points of reading "Linus sighed." in this book I was starting to wonder if the author was doing it on purpose for the laughs. Kind of feel like there were better ways to illustrate his disappointment in something. It did start to get distracting. Speaking of laughs, this book is full of them. My god did it make me giggle.
This was my first TJ Klune book and I will ABSOLUTELY be reading more of their works.

This is a very cozy, lovable read that deserves your attention. The characters are the main driving point of the plot, and each of them give you a reason to love them. I would recommend physically reading instead of audiobook.
