For a series finale it was pretty disappointing. It was good to have Quinn pop back up but it was a rather pointless few pages. All in all not the best book in the series.
Even after rereading the entire series I am still disappointed in this book.

When you get invested in a series you have your own interpretation of the characters and expectations of how it all should end. I'm disappointed with this last book because I felt some of the actions of the characters we've grown to love acted differently than expected.
In my opinion, Charlaine completely destroyed Eric in this book. In what world would Eric have given up so easily and just walk away from Sookie? I can't believe it. Eric would have a plan or strategy to deceive some, but he would always do this to get what he wants. I can't believe that he really wanted to leave Shreveport and Sookie to enter a marriage contract. The mistress piece was an absolute joke too. He was almost nonexistant in this book and it was so troublesome considering all that him and Sookie have gone through. I also didn't believe the piece in the story where he intended all along to turn Sookie into a vampire. I just feel that this was thrown together in a rush to get a book released.
I still gave this 3 stars rather than 2 over the fact that this was a 13 book series and thats so damn impressive. This may not have ended the way I wanted to, but overall this was still one of the best series out there. I'd probably rate the series as a whole a 4 stars.

I think I'm being generous with my rating... it's more 2.5 stars.
I'm not angry like so many of the fans that she did not end up with Eric - the reasons why they did not end up together were pretty much all listed in the book and made perfect sense. I like the way CH ended the series. Sookie ended up with Sam, which I think is appropriate, Pam is sheriff which is awesome. I just think that the writing was lacking. The storyline was very meh. What should have been exciting twists and turns did not feel exciting to me.
I take these books at face value - they are light, entertaining reading. I like how Charlaine chose to end the series but I just think that the writing itself was lacking. I wish I could explain it better than that.

This was a great end to the Sookie Stackhouse stories. I enjoyed the wrap up.
I had been getting a little tired of the series with the couple of books before this. However, this one I enjoyed. I like how it was ended and I was happy who she ended up with.
I'm been invested in the Sookie Stackhouse universe for a solid decade.
2010: I borrowed these books from my friend in my 10th grade English class. This was right around the time the show came out. My parents rented out the True Blood discs from Netflix (Oof!) and caught me watching it in my room. They told me to eject immediately because I was only 16.
2012: I turned 18 and my parents didn't care what popular media I consumed anymore. There were plenty of awkward tv scenes to endure with my parents over the next 8 years but thankfully I just moved out last year. I can watch gratuitous nudity to my heart's content all on my own.
2016: I decided to pick up the series again after buying Dead Until Dark at a library book sale. I gathered more books in the series over time and continued the series off and on for the next 4 years.
2018: I graduated and decorated my cap True Blood themed despite not having finished the books nor the tv show. Whoops

2020: I packed up all my books for my move out and bought the True Blood seasons I needed off Ebay. I finally finished the last book and I christened my itty bitty studio "Fairy House" with fairy figurines on the windowsill, refrigerator, and a Sookie-themed Wifi password.
ABOUT THE BOOK!
This was a strange formatting for the last book and it was a long time coming. I feel like the books were going downhill since All Together Dead where they had the vampire conference in the hotel. Mixing up the fairies sideplot and Sookie marrying Eric unknowingly were dumb choices. It was time to finally give the series the stake. It was interesting to see this as a third-person perspective instead of the usual first-person and revisit some of the old characters but that's about it. Sookie finally chose Sam which was wonderful endgame couple status. On the very last page, she stated that she would have been fine if they broke up or ended up on her own. It just seemed like a slap in the face after a 13 book slog of Sookie's various boyfriends. It was a dumb way to highlight independence and a woman's choice to happiness but I didn't appreciate it.
I'm happy to finally close this chapter on this ho hum series. My main connection to the series is how much I like the show. Now my next endeavor is to continue with True Blood and finally finish it now that I own it all on boxset. Thanks for the wacky times and irreperable effect on my life, Sookie. My family continues to call me Little Fanger and I park my car, Vampire Bill, into the parking slot every night.

Dead Ever After was quintessential ending to this many volumed series. Sookie runs through all her past ex's and all her past enemies, so that all those lose ends come to a conclusion along with Sookie's. I'm so glad I stuck with it and finished.
