Even though the last few books were not up to par-- they felt like filler, in my opinion-- I had to read Dead Ever After because I've invested so much time in this series and the characters. I wanted to see them to the end. And to be honest, I was holding onto hope that Ms. Charlaine Harris was not going to disappoint.
Well, that's exactly how I feel now after finishing the last book in the Southern Vampire Mysteries. I don't know what else to say except that on one hand I'm glad this series is finally done. The quality has been declining for some time now and it needed to be put out of its misery. But on the other, it's just such a let down with how the series has ended.

a great plot, although some of the goodbyes were insufficient. I would like to have had a bit more. It is sad to let Sookie go, but I think she will be ok.
The ending of the series could have (and should have) been so much better than this:(
adventurous
challenging
dark
emotional
hopeful
mysterious
tense
fast-paced
Plot or Character Driven:
A mix
Strong character development:
Yes
Loveable characters:
Complicated
Diverse cast of characters:
Yes
Flaws of characters a main focus:
Complicated
First off let me say that I too hated the way it ended.
That being said, it was written in the same style that I have come to love from the Sookie books. I loved this series and am sad for it to come to an end.
The point to my review is that it is the authors world(s) and characters and she gets to say how it ends, you may not like the ending but it I am glad I read it.
If you are into this series I would read it. You need to know how the author saw it ending.
Edit:
Okay, after thinking about the ending of the book some more I don't think Sookie would do that at all, in all aspects of the ending, and most of the book to be truthful. So I am changing my review from 5 stars to 2. I would still recommend you read it if you are a fan of the series just to see the ending, but don't expect to like it or feel it is in the main character's character to do what she does in this book.

It was a bit more enjoyable than the previous book. Wasn't expecting much from this though.
If I start a series, I have to end a series.
Won't happen ever again when at the 7th book, you are starting to regret it.
Crap ending to a series that went down hill a long time ago. I am sure at some point there will be another book to try and appease the pissed off fans, but I won't be buying it. Even the conversation with who she ended up with is more of a "well I'm not sure how else to end this, but you seem safe and boring."
Sigh. Wasted Saturday morning, but DONE.

Once again, Sookie's enemies are out to get her, and she seems to have too many to count. But has has a lot of people on her side, and that's what matters in the end. All of our favorites make an appearance. and there is definitely hope for Sookie's future.
