First, I would like to say that in the past I have really enjoyed this series. I thought the story and the characters were fun and I looked forward to each installment. However, my love affair with Sookie’s world began to diminish at book 10 (Dead in the Family). The books got worse and worse. I felt as though Sookie’s character had changed, she just didn’t read right in my head. I held out hope that maybe the story would be pulled around to something more redeeming than the previous three books. I was wrong.
First, Sookie is being targeted by someone she knows though the characters motivations for going after her, to me, seemed way off base and contrived simply to have a villain. I didn’t believe for a moment the motivations supposedly pushing this character.
Second, after Sookie is charged with murder many of her friends from the past come to offer her support. I didn’t feel they added anything to the story, not really. I guess this was the author’s way of letting her readers say good-bye to once important characters. I wasn’t moved if that was the case.
Third, in the last 17 pages it is revealed that there was more than another person after Sookie, bum bum buuuuum, and she’s been kidnapped…which is resolved within 8 pages. This whole scene felt unnecessary and a waste of energy. There wasn’t any life changing reveal it was just pointless.
I had hope for more from this final installment but I didn’t expect it. The only reason I’m giving this two stars instead of one is simply because I enjoyed the first nine books so very much and I feel like being kind out of nostalgia.

fast-paced
The ending has grown on me. I still don't like the sudden introduction of alternate points of view in the final book of the series because it feels jarring at best. I think the plot itself is a bit overwrought and underthunk. But I can't disagree about where Sookie's story needed to end up for her ultimate happiness. The signs are all over the series, now that I know to look for them. I'm glad I reread the books (even the ones I kinda hated) and I started at just the right time when I needed something with just this sort of tone, but my overall impression isn't that I'd recommend them over some of the more modern stuff I've read because they have agreed, in so many ways, like milk.
hmm this was ok. Not great but an apt ending
Disappointing after so looking forward to read it. This has nothing to do with the ending, but trying to remember the thing that came up from previous books, I'm guessing and having her bring back (or mention if they were dead) every last character was even more disappointing. It is fun when a TV series does it so you can see the character, but not in a 300 page book. And somewhere in the middle I got déjà vu and am not sure if it was like another one of her books or someone else's book. Here's hoping she gets back on track when she starts the next series.
I know people are pissed because this was not a happily ever after with everyones favorite viking riding sookie off into the sun set but I personally will always prefer an honest ending to a happy one.
I liked it better than I feared, but still, I feel the series overstayed its welcome. Breaking the consistent point of view of Sookie as narrator was a distracting gimmick so late in the game, and I don't think was really necessary. Maybe she was bored too with her own formula.
But like I said, I liked it. I think it ends on a right note, and the romantic shipping makes kinda sense.

I have to say I was a bit underwhelmed with this last book. That's not to say it was bad, it just seemed like a lot of unnecessary trouble to make a complete book so she could finish out the series. I know a lot of people were disappointed with this book but my reasons were not the typical ones. I'm glad she ended up with ______. I thought that was the most logical choice and the one in the best interest of Sookie. Of course, I had a long gap in the books way back and it was easy for me to switch Teams.
All in all, I liked it. Things were wrapped up, not exactly the way I had pictured with some of it, but wrapped up just the same. I thought it was a little dull but I'm mostly happy with the end result. I still really enjoyed the heck out of this series, especially the first 8 books.

Amazing end to the series. I had a lot of fun with this series. Tons of up and downs. I'll remember these books forever and I'm sure I'll read them again and again.
I had to. I had read all the others in the series, often with great pain, and I am just the kind of person who can't leave the last book hanging.
I'm unhappy with the way this series ended. The author should have ended this three books ago before the absurdities became irredeemable. I won't be re-reading the last few books in this series.
