I wasn’t blown away by this one like I was with Fight Club or Invisible Monsters. Still, it was good.

When I read the description and it said Madison died of a marijuana overdose, you better believe I almost didn’t read it because I don’t think that’s a real thing.

But it’s Chuck Palahniuk, there was a significance to Madison thinking that’s how she died… and there was.

This read was interesting, if Hell is real I wouldn’t mind spending eternity there. Candy is a currency? You can punch Hitler and rip off his mustache? Sign me up.

It was fun to learn about Madison, her life on Earth before her demise and arriving in Hell. It was also fun how she transformed herself with the help of one her new found compadres, Archer.

Also, that revelation by Satan at the end. Like Madison, I don’t know if he’s serious

I have gotten back into reading this year and went to a favorite author I haven't read in far too many years. Chuck Palahniuk definitely does not disappoint in Damned! The comedy, cultural references, and themes are all there. Can't wait to start on 'Doomed'!

This is my first dive back into Palahniuk after reading the shitshow that was “Not Forever, But For Now”. I was worried that one would put me off of my favorite author forever. I’m glad to report, it did not. In usual Palahniuk style, “Damned” is a scathing, vulgar, weird af satire on life and death, and the experiences of both. And I ate it up. Thank God. Sorry Satan, there I go using the G word.

The book has a different idea of what hell is but the protagonist is clever and takes her situation rather well which kept the book interesting.

Holy bananas I disliked the smarmy self awareness of this book with my whole heart.

After hearing the author talk about Damned in a TV interview I was intrigued enough by the setting to immediately add it to my library hold list.

The setting was indeed fantastic, and the unique aspects of Hell were my favourite parts of the book. Sadly, I couldn't bring myself to care much about the characters.
