This was cute to the point of being too saccharine. I enjoyed reading it, but it was a bit much.

Started it, was enjoying it but then I forgot about it completely and I don't think I will be getting back into it anytime soon.
Since I have a physical copy of the book, I will probably read it sometime in the future. But right now, I have other books I am more interested in.

The cover is very pretty, vibrant and memorable. It compliments the story perfectly. The book was incredibly refreshing. There are 1000’s of romance novels on sale and often they can become mundane, repetitive and bland. Not in the case of Meet Me At The Lighthouse, Baker manages to keep her story refreshing and on point. With intricate side stories threaded through the main event. There was never a dull moment or a need to skim.

Bobbie is a unique and loveable character, I have to be honest and reveal that every time they said Miss Hannigan, I was immediately blasted back to the 1980’s movie Annie and I giggled each time. Bobbie is a modern women, strong, independent and someone I would like to know.

Baker has done a very good job of keeping the book modern without any cliche long drawn out scenes of lovey dovey nonsense. The book is witty, engaging and sentimental.

I recommend the book to lovers of love and to those who like to remember those gone before us and how important it is for us to keep shining a light for them.

I have received this ARC from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

Meet Me at the Lighthouse brought me back to when I went to Maine for a day two years ago. We were celebrating my Dad's 60th birthday and we traveled to Boston for a week. Rented a huge house for the whole family, plus dog babies, and did so many things. I especially enjoyed my lobster roll in Maine and seeing a lighthouse from afar.

We are already thinking of going to Maine next year to celebrate my Mom's 60th.. which would have been this year.. but due to Covid we ended up playing the game 'Pandemic' and basically killed the entire world over and over again.

Anyhoo, back to the book. In this, you will meet Bobbie and Ross. Now these two are sort of getting a second chance at love being the flames are reigniting between these two. Their chemistry was so freaking good and I honestly loved how they wanted to help one another when it came to anything.

Of course there was drama.. coming from Ross because he was still technically married (but separated from his wife). Ugh. It still didn't stop me from having heart eyes whenever these two were in the same room. They were just really freaking cute and I couldn't help it.

In the end, I'm so glad that I got the chance to dive into this book. Even though it took me forever to actual do so. It's very cute and a quick read.

I came to this novel with no expectations whatsoever, choosing it because I like lighthouses and the cover caught my eye! I was so pleased I read it. I enjoyed this book so much.
Bobbie and Ross have history. They went to school together and shared their first kiss back at a school disco half their lives ago. They encounter each other again on a beach in their home seaside town and, just a few short hours (and glasses of wine) later become joint owners of Ross' great-uncle's lighthouse, a landmark on the coast and icon for the town.
From the moment that Bobbie and Ross reconnect their chemistry sizzles and this turns into a funny, sexy and, at times, steamy read where you can't fail to root for the crazy lighthouse-renovating pair. Baker has a way of writing which brings to mind the Yorkshire accent and a conversational style which left me feeling like I was listening in on a conversation between friends. So often the leads in romantic novels are a little two-dimensional but both Bobbie and Ross are well developed characters with interesting lives and an attendant cast of characters which are brought into the other's life too.
I find so many romantic writers struggle to properly achieve comedy but this made me cry with laughter at points. I'm not sure if it's the blunt Yorkshire humour or the familiarity with which they gently insult each other but whatever the magic spark of funny is in this book, it works brilliantly. I will be seeking out more books by Mary Jayne Baker, and secretly hoping to find a lighthouse to buy on impulse too.

I loved Meet me at the lighthouse!!

It’s a lovely feel good read with the perfect characters and a lighthouse! It’s not everyday I read a book about a lighthouse!

I laughed throughout the book, with the antics Bobbi got up to really did remind me of Bridget Jones!

The book has two main characters – Bobbi and Ross, followed by a community of characters, all of whom are relevant to the story. You will come across the characters you can’t help but love and hate! What I loved about all the characters was how they all came together.

I whizzed right through this book, it was like I was watching a movie rather than reading, it played out vividly in my mind and I really felt like I was there, amongst all the characters and scenery.

Meet me at the lighthouse was my first book of Mary’s and certainly won’t be the last.

I loved her way with words, the characters and their personalities, the scenery etc…

This is a book I can really recommend to all fans of Bridget Jones, Carole Matthews and Trisha Ashley.

Meet Me At The Lighthouse by Mary Jane Baker is a charming book just like its cover!

The story is about Bobbie Hannigan, in one of her impulsive moments, ended up buying a lighthouse. And in another drunken spontaneous moment, decided together with an old friend (her first kiss!), Ross Mason, to rebuild it to its original glory but with a beautiful mission - a musical venue for young adults in their community.

I thought it was pleasingly written and had a lot of funny delivered lines by the characters. It surprisingly has its dark moments but the story never lingered over it which I like. I thought it reflected how Bobbie has thrived from her past experiences. Despite that, the book is about her being stagnant in some of her decisions, and it was nice to read how she worked through her problems and self-esteem. Ross is a pleasant character too. He and Bobbie are really cute together and I like their banter. It doesn't feel contrived but just like how you would talk to a close friend (potential boyfriend).

If you're into romance books with enjoyable characters with not much drama, this a cute book to pick up!

"The day I turned 28, I bought a lighthouse and met the love of my life."

When a book starts like that, you can't help but want to keep reading. Meet Me at the Lighthouse by Mary Jayne Baker reeled me in with the first sentence. And just like the first sentence suggests, this book was surprising and romantic.

It follows Bobbie Hannigan, who on her 28th birthday- wait for it- buys a lighthouse. Boom. Mic drop. But contrary to what the first sentence says, she didn't exactly meet the love of her life for the first time on her 28th birthday, but rather met him again after ten years apart. Ross Mason, the boy in the band, her first kiss, was back in town and helping his uncle sell his lighthouse for a quid. Bobbie buys the lighthouse and from there starts a beautiful adventure, filled with laughter, love and passion.

I'd like to think that given the opportunity, I might do the same thing had I been in Bobbie's shoes. But I can't say that for sure. Her passion and her willingness to take a chance on a dream is what drives this book. That along with Ross's support and their mutual love and respect for each other and the lighthouse is what makes this book unique. It's inspirational in a way that shows you that dreams can be achieved, as long as you're willing to take a chance on them. What starts out with a tequila slammer and a drunken deal ends with a really uplifting happily ever after.

The book flows really well. There are some time jumps, some of them a couple of weeks, but for the most part the transitions in this book were pretty seamless. It did take me a while to get used to the language and the phrasing but once I did, I was able to really appreciate this book. The author has a really endearing voice that highlights the quirkiness of her characters. Both Ross and Bonnie are really fun characters and while there were times where they were extremely corny, I think it worked for them!

This was a really enjoyable read! It had a really unique plot, which is what made it stand out for me. Along with that the characters were well rounded, and their relationships with each other is fleshed out really well. There are mentions of darker times, but for the most part, this book is fun and hilarious! It's a second-chance romance in a small town that's adorable and heartwarming. I would recommend it if you're looking for a light and cheesy, rom-com with a really sweet HEA!

What happens when two people who have relationship baggage get together… this book, that’s what happens.
Bobbie and Ross both really like each other, are great together but both come with emotional baggage (being cheated on, a scumbag of a dad and an ongoing divorce to name a few). So obviously the drama of the book is all caused by the two big romance tropes, lack of communication and the fact that one or both parties haven’t healed from past relationship trauma.

This is a cosy romance book with very low stakes, mild drama, a little bit of smutt and if the author wasn’t from Yorkshire I would say far too many instances of addressing someone as ‘Love’ and an over-fondness for going to the pub.

This kind of book is not my thing, but it’s a super easy read and a little bit of fun, with lots of northern banter. The drama isn’t really dramatic enough though and is always resolved pretty quickly so feels more tedious than plot driving and I lost interest for the last 100 pages or so where the story felt stagnant. I also felt that the characters were pretty flat, and the fact Bobbie’s dream of publishing a book is never really mentioned at all yet she goes all guns blazing for Ross’s dream a little weird, what was the point in having this as a character feature?

I would say this book is perfect for someone who likes a chick-flick and probably doesn’t read a great deal though or if you like an easy romance and need to switch off a little. It’s not the worst, but it’s not the best I’ve read of this type of book.
