I'm not the kind of person to usually pick up a political book, but with all the juicy bits of gossip in the book, it made for a pretty fascinating read.
Absolutely wonderful. I was sucked right in and loved reading about the behind the scenes of the 2008 elections. Makes me miss college and wish I had a room of people to discuss this with.
Pros: It was fun to see what these politicians were like behind the scenes. Clinton and Edwards are especially fun caricatures, Clinton coming off as a grown Tracy Flick.
Cons: The words 'who cares' left my lips more than once during this read. There was also a sense of 'unreliable narrator' -- for example, the importance of people like Patti Solis Doyle seems rather inflated in this story.

Well-writter and researched book about the 2008 election that demonstrates how what looked like pre-ordanied outcomes was actually very unpredictable and tenuous. Exciting to read with interviews and quotes from all the major players and staff of the 2008 election campaigns. I listed to this book on CD and for once in my life did not hate traffic because I wanted to hear what happened next.
Fantastic book - the Clinton/Obama parts are much more fleshed out than the McCain/Palin parts, but that didn't bother me at all. This was a tremendous read.
I read these out of order, but that doesn't really change the fact that these books are an excellent porthole into the personalities behind presidential elections. A good levelheaded counter to the sound bites that permeate campaigns such as this.
The information and insider's view of everything that happened was awesome. The writing sucked a bag of dicks. Journalists, please stop writing books. Your lack of vocabulary and schizophrenic use of a thesaurus is annoying. Also, did you really have to wedge in the term "game change" into the book as much as you did? Really? Because it felt like a clown car.
Absolutely incredible. A must for political junkies or those that just enjoy a good read.
This is definitely a worth while read. I saw the HBO movie Game Change and decided to read the book. First they are completely different, so if you have watched the movie set it aside. You definitely get a very in depth look at the full 2008 election with this book. From both rounds of primaries to the general election. I wish they went a little bit into election night, but it kind of stopped at the campaigns. I think there were a lot of other things, such as the economy, that influenced the election but isn't touched on much in this book. To be fair, the way the economy effected the 2008 election is a whole book on its own.
Great narrative, but lacking deep analysis. Though this is a fine read if you are a political gossip junkie, Richard Ben Cramer's "What It Takes: The Way to the White House" is both better written and far more illuminating about Presidential personalities and the rigors of campaigning.
