I loved all the Twilight books! However this one with the guy being human and the girl being a vampire was kind of weird. Everyone was different and it was hard to remember who was who. The ending was the only thing that changed and it was mediocre. I still loved the story.

That alternative ending though!
I want to start this review by saying that yes, I was a little embarrassed to be essentially re-reading Twilight. I love the series because it was the first thing I ever really read because I wanted to, and not because teachers at school were telling me to read something, but there are obviously other books out there that are more enjoyable than Twilight. However, I did love revisiting the characters and plot lines that I was obsessed over at the tender age of eleven. It left me feeling warm and nostalgic...that was until I hit the ending and felt like I had just been punch in the heart by Muhammad Ali!
I genuinely do recommend this book to people, whether you were a complete Twi-Hard such as myself or otherwise. -Sigh- My first book of 2016, and what a way to start the year :)

"Try not to get caught up in antiquated gender roles" (page 135). What a great quote! Sums up this new version perfectly because this new anniversary edition offers readers a great concept. I absolutely enjoyed reading this. As a fan of this series it really was extraordinary to have the story "reimagined"! And oh, that ending ;) A wonderful way to cap off a year of 52 books read in 2015.

Why would anyone want to read the gender swapped version of Twilight? I mean, I read the series only because of Edward and Robert Pattinson. I don't want a girl version of Edward.

Ok, I had to go buy it. I loved the Twilight series when they came out, so I was interested in this book.

Surprisingly enough, I really liked this version. Sure, the names of the characters she chose are horrible, but it’s not like the original names were really much better.

So where does this book stand with me? Overall, it’s a “meh.” I’m glad I read it, I certainly liked parts of it much more than Twilight… but was it a good book? Not particularly. There were still a lot of problems with the story (mostly, the character’s lack of personality). This felt too much like a ploy to keep the series relevant without having to actually write something new.

2.5 stars. And that feels r e a l l y generous.

I was excited to read this. I pretended I didn't care when it originally came out, but I was immediately intrigued. After rewatching Twilight with my roommate and spending the past year watching and reading content produced by the "Twilight renaissance", I felt comfortable enough to admit that I was nostalgic for the days when I was obsessed with this original book and eager for a fresh take.

This was not a fresh take, as the author warned in the forward, this is literally the same book except with "she" changed to "he". To the point where the male characters have a feminine feel to them and the female characters almost all have deep voices and the when they go bad, they go twisted in the way you'd expect a man to go twisted. It felt lazy, it felt weirdly sexist potentially, and it lead to many outbursts on my part. But once I got past some of the initial bore and annoyance, I was still hooked. I couldn't put it down, this the three stars. I wouldn't recommend this to anyone. It's not a creative look on what the story if Twilight would be if Edward were an Edythe and Bella were a Beau, it's just if Edward was shorter Bella and "Edward" were spelled E D Y T H E. The most exciting parts for me were when their interactions changed a handful of times to reflect their new genders: Beau wanting to offer Edythe his jacket (but realizing that's dumb), and Edythe sitting in Beau's lap instead of vice versa. That's it.

I will say this: The frustrations I had with book made me uncomfortable with how I view gender. I don't want to think that girls can't act the way we traditionally expect men to act.
Something to work on, but I do still fin it strange that this entire town seems to have switched it's gender roles.

My first thought was just sadness that the book wasn't Midnight Sun or a continuation from Jacob & Renesme or anything but this. It took me absolutely forever. It was really difficult to stop imagining Bella instead of Beau and even harder to keep track of characters. I think it would be more enjoyable to someone who hasn't read Twilight. But then Twilight might be ruined?? And weirdly, I didn't feel a connection with Edythe and Beau like I did with Edward and Bella. The ending threw me. I expected it to be the same the whole way through, and that was when I really got interested. And then it was done all too soon.

Glad I read it. I enjoyed it. Glad Twilight didn't end this way.
