John Grisham

Unlike many other Grisham books, this one was rather void of the high moral ground, which in some ways made it a little less appealing since I had no incentive to root for the protagonist.

Grisham returns with another sensational book, whose time on the NYT Bestseller's list is no fluke. Filled with great plot, wonderful dialogue and detailed narration, the book pushes the legal genre to include jailhouse law and the skirting of it, in its many forms. Grisham, ever the masterful legal mind, as included angles with which I would have never associated 'the law' or legal writing, and does so in such a way that the reader can simple become an active observer in the journey. A little of everything in this grab bag of legal fiction, peppered with just the right amount of humour.

Taking the main character's first person narrative in imbuing the African American male perspective is surely another of Grisham's greater feats. While it could have been that the book was narrated by such a man that brought the character off the page, but the detail and thoroughly impressive cross-racial narrative construction was flawless, to me, a lowly Caucasian. I was so impressed with the story and Grisham's sense of detail that I almost forgot who I was and what was going on.

Kudos, Mr. Grisham on a sensational piece of work!

Literally one of the worst books I read. I tried to finish it as fast as I could so that I could finally move on from this book and the self centered and completely assholic protagonist of Malcom Bannister.

My respect for John Grisham from his brilliant days of 'The Runaway Jury', 'The Firm', etc is now seriously plummeting into a dark deep sad hole.

I feel sorry for those who bought the book and now are looking forward to reading it and at the same point of time, weep with the people who have already read it and are in the same position as me.

I'm really sorry Bro John, you did NOT impress.

If you're looking for entertaining book to spend time and you like crime genre you might like this one. I liked The Chamber very much, but this one didn't deliver much in terms of real justice or main character fighting for justice. Really, there's not many characters you can like (well, depending on your moral compass and how you see revenge within your set of values) but then again it's pretty obvious world is not lacking these types of people. Maybe they are just less glamorous and not afraid to show more cruelty when someone accidentally crosses their way than those described in this story.
It's probably not one of the greater achievements of one of the most famous and lovable modern best selling author, but it's still an interesting read.

This was a fast, easy read and it wasn't very good. The few times it surprised me, I realized that there were plenty of clues. I just wasn't paying attention. It was that boring. After we find out "whodunit," I was waiting for an elaborate, awesome explanation, and I didn't get one. This book is entertaining, at most.

Dosadno!

Really enjoyed this, having not read much Grisham before. The character of jailhouse lawyer Bannister develops progressively, leading you along sometimes unexpected routes and developing twists in the plot along the way. I did enjoy the way it is narrated from inside his head and, for a legal thriller, we get to share much of this character's emotions and feelings. I was happy to suspend belief on the legal twists and turns and I enjoyed the systematic build in intensity right through to the end.

Very good, suspenseful, but I didnt like the
ending

I really liked this book. for a while I was confused when the story took a huge turn but I quickly figured it out. I'd read this author again

Nice quick read, fast paced shenanigans. Love John's novels!~!!
