I thought the first book was fun and campy but this sequel just rubbed me the wrong way.

Killing your only gay black character in a mystery related to sex parties. not a good look.

Jason, the main character's brother being homophobic and admiting it and Sookie being like, he isn't right but he's my brother. (same brother who slapped her in the first book)

I enjoyed certain aspects of the book but it's problematic.

lighthearted fast-paced
Plot or Character Driven: Plot
Strong character development: No
Loveable characters: No
Diverse cast of characters: Yes
Flaws of characters a main focus: No

I enjoyed this one a little bit more than the first time I read it. I'm glad the maenad part wasn't as much as the TV show and that Tara showed up eventually, I hope she stays around in the books.

I didn't like how they made Godfrey though, one of my favourite scenes in True Blood is between Sookie, Eric and Godfrey when he dies but in the book the scene is short and done in a car park and is over. Also Godfrey isn't Eric's maker. Hmm...

Nice simple read - plenty of action and excitement. A nice way to pass an afternoon with a book you don't have to think too much about :)

I am having a hard time separating the books and the show! With that said, I am enjoying the series. The interaction between Sookie and Eric is wonderful. Sookie and Bill are wonderful, too, but in a different way. Bill is very attentive to Sookie. I can't help but feel that the relationship is a bit one way.

Really enjoyable light read.

First time I read it I gave it 3 stars, but in the last 5 and a half years I've read some really bad books. I'm upping the rating to 4 stars.

not quite as good as book 1, but definitely opened up the plot for Continuing Action (tm). a quick, easy, voracious read.

It took me about 90 pages to really get into this, for me it just didn't lead on well from the last book but it really made up for itself in the last 200 pages. I also found a love for Eric and the orgy scene just made me laugh the whole way through, Bill however I am bored with I really have this idea in my mind that Sookie and Eric would be perfect together and for me Bill just didn't making the cut in this book even though in Dead Until Dark I really liked Bill.
Still can't wait to read the next one to find out what happens next!

These books like melt my brain after I read one. I remember the first time I got halfway through the series I was highly entertained. Now I'm just brainlessly going along. Send help.

First read August 15 - 20, 2013: I am becoming more and more ambivalent about this series. This is the problem with reading something after you see it.

Second read: I've had time to separate the show from the books, and it's a more entertaining read this time round. I still seriously dislike bill Compton.
