Just as my friend said it is definitely different from the show. But that makes it something new. Wasn't one of the best stories ever but it was still pretty good. I find it harder to like Bill in the books.

I started to read this book last year and got about halfway. I have yet to get back to it and I may never do so. I'm pretty ambivalent about reading a book that doesn't hold my interest.
I enjoyed this book so much more than the first one. I love the way Sookie exerts herself in her relationship with Bill. She is fiercely independent. I felt as though more of the characters were fleshed out with personalities too.
At this point I'm not sure if I like the books or show better. There are a lot of differences in the book that make it dull in comparison; for instance, in the show Jason goes off to join the Fellowship, which adds more of a plot and involves other characters. However, Sookie remains to be the only round character throughout the story, and it's a bit disappointing. Another thing I didn't like is how Sookie is always right. In the beginning scenes, she comes up with the idea of the house being bugged, and it takes her all of two sentences to crawl under a table and find the source of the problem. It isn't entirely logical and leaves Sookie as the ultimate protagonist, capable of saving every vampire's ass whenever they might be in danger. it seems a bit ridiculous at times. I'm still going to continue reading the series as I originally intended, and hopefully over time I'll grow to like them more.
