There was good dual perspective and helped bring character stories together.
The romance was meh. Too quick and sudden without much reason as to why other than a childhood bond. I guess that's enough but didn't make me swoon. Kinda forgetable in comparison to other books.
Either way, it's a good story and at the end of the day the bad guy isn't who you think it is.
Nice little plot twist and yes it ends on a cliff hanger so be prepared to start the next one immediately.

I thought the enemies to lovers was well done, but I missed my big love declaration. It wasn’t really clear when they were officially lovers.
The book led up to an interesting cliffhanger, but I felt
Will I read the next one? Absolutely. I just hope it’s a bit better than this guy.

A beautiful, twisted story of a fated love that could defy years and cross seas.
Wow wow wow! Erik and Livia's story drew me in from the very beginning. I was entranced by the dance that our Songbird and Serpent did throughout the book. Caring, pretending not to care, protecting, being protected, love, hate...LJ Andrews builds an amazing push and pull that keeps you on your toes and wanting more.
All of the characters were written with great care and depth. The anxiety and panic attack rep with Livia was amazing to read, especially as someone that deals with it personally. It was written in such a realistic and relatable way, yet it was never something that classified Livia as weak. I love how Erik was there to support her and remind her of who she is and just how strong she is. And I loved when she showed it! Erik's inner turmoil, and his struggle between holding on to past hate or moving forward with love was so well written. He is the literal definition of morally grey. I totally see how Livia fell for him because I sure did.
The story moved a little slow for me at times, but it was all a build up for those last two chapters. I screamed. I was in a state of shock. I didn't know how to function. So many plot twists and I didn't see any of them coming! Honestly, I think about this story daily, and I can't wait to finish Erik and Livia's story in The Ever Queen.
Definitely read this book if you like:
