In 1936, Albert Ellingham's daughter and wife are kidnapped. Years later, Stevie Bell is accepted to Ellingham academy, and determined to crack the case.

I am kicking myself for not grabbing a copy of Truly Devious sooner, the fact that it is Young Adult put me off for the longest time. I didn't think I'd be as engrossed by a YA mystery, well I was wrong. This book was fantastic.

Stevie Bell might be one of my favourite protagonists, she is an absolute delight. I loved how obsessed she is with true crime, and how being at Ellingham Academy is referred to as 'Murder Disney World' for her. The book is very transparent about Stevie's mental health, how she struggles with anxiety and panic attacks, which is definitely something we need to see more of in literature. My favourite part about her, was how bloody funny she is. I caught myself giggling constantly reading this one, much to my boyfriend's dismay.

The mystery in Truly Devious had me absolutely wracking my brain, there are several elements of the story we are trying to figure out, in both 1936 and the present day. I stayed up till 2:15 devouring the last 150 pages. I had to know how it ended, and as soon as I finished I was itching to get my hands on the next installment.

If you love mystery books, you need to grab yourself a copy of this one, but don't make the mistake I made, make sure you have the second book on hand ready for when you finish!
