I’m soooo sorry to the booktube community for this one hahahaha. This book was rough for me, y’all. It’s so hard for me to be this bored reading a mystery...and yet. Nothing.....happened in this book? The story dragged on and there was zero payoff at the end. I didn’t feel close to the characters either. Nothing clicked for me with this story, unfortunately.

Lots of fun, good mystery. Would be tempted to continue the series.

this book was pretty good, i genuinely had no clue who could’ve committed the crime so it was nice to actually have a slight shock at the end, it did feel like the ending was slightly rushed, but i will give it a pass because this book was written with the intent of having another book out to continue the story. this book held my attention from the beginning of me reading it. i love love love the beginning of starting the book with dottie and then her murder, i picked up this book a while ago so i forgot the main characters name so it was a really intense nice way to start the book. i’m excited to read the next couple books. i gave it four stars because of the fact it was ellie who is the assumed murderer. i don’t feel it makes too much sense, ellie and hayes were not written as having a close relationship. if it was david who was murdered that would make a lotttt more sense given how close their relationship was so ellie was a shock for me but purely because their link doesn’t make so much sense to me. maybe i missed something. but either way i could not put the down this book, yay!

The beginning of the book was slow ramp up to a really fantastic mystery. For the first 75-100 pages I though this was yet another time I just didn’t see what everyone else was raving about, even though I’m a sucker for a Holmes like detective story… And then it clicked together and I did not want to put it down. The young main character was amazingly and believably awkward with her relationships while still being brilliant in her specialty. The flashbacks were a perfect way to explain a story that ‘everyone knows’ already in the book, happily they were perfectly placed and concise so we could get back to the story that had me captivated. I think there are enough clues that a mystery reader will be satisfied, but I certainly do not have a guess as to the culprit yet! The cliffhanger ending caused me to immediately hop online and buy the next installment of the series.

I really should read more mysteries. The author's decision to move back and forth between the past and present made the story all the more interesting and reminded me of The Diviners even though the stories are in different genres and have little in common other than the tone and the fact that part of each novel is set within a decade of each other.

That was a fun book! I can't wait to read the next one. It was a fast-paced page-turner with likable characters and a vivid setting. Flashing between past and present made it even more intriguing. I truly enjoyed it. The next one is already on hold at the library.

this was good, but nothing mind-blowing or amazing. after reading so many adult mystery thriller books it's hard to enjoy ya mystery thriller books. i've also rarely read mystery book series so i am not used to how slow this book was. i am used to everything being resolved in one book but this felt like it dragged on and it took a while for any mystery to happen. however, the ending was interesting enough that i will continue on with the series because i do want to know what happens next.
