4.5 Really good continuation of the series that should make all little sisters happy with a role model that doesn't fit easy pigeon-holes. As always moral questions are not brushed away or overs-simplified, but there of course it's still a YA novel. This one was not quite as evocative and enchanting for me as the first two, but the final frontier has its own charms. There are a couple of minor quibbles I have with it (like a glossed-over panicked killing) and a bit more deus-ex-machina than usual, but the enchanted computer as an ersatz spellbook is ingenious (especially for the late eighties) and the imaginative story-telling takes off from there.

One of the best and most unique wizardry series ever. I loved this focus on Dairine becoming a wizard, and how different it is from Kit & Nita's experience.

Ugh.
Far too philosophical. Planets and things and stuff.
Really only kept reading, becasue I wanted to do the next one.

Once again, Diane Duane showcases her skill and finesse in literature. Very well done.

I enjoyed this book, and I'm glad I was caught up on the New Millennium editions. It feels like a hinge point in the series; it definitely should not be read as a stand-alone book. The system of magical ethics is one of the things I like most about Diane Duaneās books, and the ethics felt more complicated in this book than the previous ones, which is I suppose what growing up is like.

Not as good as the first two, but still very interesting.

Nita's little sister Dairine enters the world - and universe- of wizardry with a huge bang in High Wizardry. Dairine's Ordeal and experiences with wizardry are a fun way to see how magic evolves with the world culture. It also provides a humorous twist for the usual sibling relationship!
