Warning to anyone sensitive to slurs, this book is full of them. Both as a product of it's time and also as a representation of the racism, ableism, and homophobia of the time. But it's an accurate representation, and in my opinion does not reflect views of the author.

I've read this book once before, but the audiobook really is fantastic. The version I listened to was narrated by Tom Parker, and he does an amazing job. His voice is fit for the tone of the book for sure.

Subject matter and language are too graphic for me. It does seem like an interesting story and a pertinent message about the abuse which patients in mental institutions suffer (especially in the past).

A challenging but very good novel that touches on some of the big challenges of modern life from an oblique angle.
