Overall, this was a fun change of pace from my usual genres. However, there were a few problems for me.

First, it’s definitely “R-rated”. There’s cursing, death (not a spoiler, mentioned on the inner cover), etc. that may bother some so keep that in mind.
Second, I wish there was more character development. Some of the characters seem a little one dimensional due to the lack of development and exploration.
Third, I did also feel like there were some issues toward the end. Some of the end character plots left me a little disappointed and confused. A lot of it seemed rushed and almost forced.

Aside from those issues, the book was a pretty fun and heart racing change. The descriptions of the island are beautiful and the tangled relationships and characters were so fun to “figure out”. I would recommend this to anyone who wants a thriller about a deserted island or someone who wants to pretend it’s not winter.

This book was a lot of fun and had a lot of twists and turns that I personally wasn’t expecting. I didn’t find the characters particularly lovable or relatable. But there was just enough back story throughout the book to keep you hooked! Definitely a lot of fun to read.

I always find Rachel Hawkin's books to be just a straight-up fun time, no matter the genre, audience, or setting, and this was no exception. I enjoyed the way this played out so much (and loved the ending!). It is a bit of a slow burn as a thriller and took a minute to get going, and I do think it would have been a tiny bit more believable if some of the characters were in their mid-thirties instead of mid-twenties. Still, it was a great ride and the audiobook is a really enjoyable listen.

Reckless Girls is a quick and satisfying thriller. A perfect beach read, as long as you’re not on an island in the middle of nowhere that has a history of cannibalism and mysterious disappearances or murders…

When I say it took me a minute to get into this story, I mean it took me a minute after I was already about a chapter or so in, when we finally meet Brittany and Amma. These two girls left me feeling suspicious and their first interactions with Lux and Nico is what hooked me. Lux is a pretty charming character at first, too.

I felt a pull of immediacy as I kept reading, largely based on Rachel’s writing style. I absolutely loved The Wife Upstairs so I was going into this book with similar expectations. Rachel delivered. The twists and the drama?! All I can say is…..you’ve found your next thriller if you’re looking for a quick read to get your blood pumping.
