I liked this book since it was romantic fantasy and I'm a geek that way, but it was one of those books that made me stressed because it had a bully and he was doing all sorts of unfair things and that is my least favorite type of plot. I hate it in movies and I hate it in books. I get to mad and I want the characters to just stand up to the person and stop being idiots. Of course, then there wouldn't be a plot, but still.
The message of this book impacted me so hard that I quit reading 75% of the way through so I could just go act on it in real life. 2 months later I came back to finish it and I have some FEELINGS.
Genuinely one of the most personally relevant, relatable, and emotional reading experiences I’ve ever had. Jesus this book is SO GOOD.
The protagonists were so lovable and the antagonists so hateable… the grey morals of the Other Kingdom were so intriguing… the descriptions were so lush and rich. The way Romanian folklore is used is stunning. It’s dark without being fake edgy, and the ending is just perfect for this type of story.
And just. THE MESSAGES. True love winning out, faith bringing happiness, and sacrifice and hard work being necessary anyway… hoo boy that got to me. Gogu and Jena’s relationship cut so close to my heart and life. The way everything ended with Cezar was so cathartic for my personal issues. Jena’s increasing trust in Draguta was so similar to my own currently growing faith. Also, the sisterly relationships were beautiful. Tati and Sorrow made me cry. BUT. MOST OF ALL. GOGU AND JENA. UGH!!! I LOVE THEM!!!
I bought this book on a whim but I kinda think God sent it to me as a sign because I am genuinely a changed woman now

I became really frustrated with the gender roles in this book, and the lack of thought in the female characters' actions especially in regards to their behavior around/towards men.
Retelling of the Frog Prince with a Transylvanian twist.
Jena and her 4 sisters travel through a portal to the Other Kingdom every night on the full moon. Once there they dance and make merry with the strange and wonderful creatures of the fairy world. Things change when their father falls ill, and cousin Cezar tries to destroy the life they love. The Transylvanian setting and names add a certain charm to the story, but there was a lot of description and a very transparent chain of events visible to all except Jena the narrator.

It's fairly simple, but beautifully done and one of my favorites from my youth
I liked this book a lot. Great re-telling. I did, however, want more at the end. But, things that were left unsaid were assumed and the book is very well written. I will be reading more of her books.
3.5/5
super cute fairytale-esque story. The resolution was a bit abrupt as the rest of the story dragged out for longer than necessary, but it was still a cute, light read.

This book is based on the story The 12 dancing princesses. I really enjoyed her spin on the book and her writing style is great. I really liked most of the characters and their stories. However, I had a bit of trouble with Tatiana and the love story. The author never really gives us a reason why they fall in love. She also gives a tiny snippet of Sorrows story. So it was hard for me to really support that part of the book or feel any empathy for the lovers. In the end Jenica's understanding and love for her sister finally makes this part of the story more believable.
