This book was incredibly frustrating to read. The characters felt selfish and whiny. They also, do to circumstances, had no ability to stand up to their power hungry cousin which made it all the more hard to read while they continued to be beat down. I did enjoy how the story came together at the end.
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAH! This book was SO MUCH BETTER than I was expecting. Marillier is obviously the best, but her young adult series is probably my least favourite of all of her writing (Ravenfall, not this). So I went into this fairly trepidatious. And it turned out to be on par with her other books, full of lush description, rich and complex characters, and just the right amount of fairy mischief.
This is the story of a group of sisters who journey into Fairyland on every full moon. But when their father leaves them alone for the winter, their lives grow increasingly complicated and treacherous.
I couldn't put it down! I can't wait to read the sequel. I don't know how I missed reading this many years ago, I think I got it confused with another book and thought I had already read it. SO glad I figured out that I hadn't!!

The romance for this was quite endearing. I didn’t read the blurb for this and kept expecting a retelling of 12 swans but I liked this retelling of the princess and the frog. The storyline with Tatiana felt incredibly aggravating and annoying. I can’t believe she would have starved herself for love. Like what in the world does that accomplish?

I found that the first half of the book dragged on. In fact, the argumets between Cezar and Jena and the bleak but slow turn of events surrounding the family only filled me a sense of foreboding that I couldn't shake. It kept me from really getting into the book. The story could have used more from Gogu and more scenes in the Dancing Glade, a fact that became clear to me near the end because that's when the story really grabbed. But it was too little, too late.
A mixture of fairy tales this book is beautifully written. Excellent character development, I really came to love the sisters and the frog.
3 1/2 stars. It was fun, despite several characters acting extremely stupidly, and I'll read the next one.
meh... I like the very expert and creative reworking of classic fairytales, but one of the characters drove me nuts. I have little patience for girls who pine nearly to death, even for true love. Be strong for your love, don't waste away waiting for him!! hence the three stars...
Beautiful weaving of fairy tales and their elements to tell Jena's story. Plus a talking pet frog and a HEA.
A YA version of her other books with less: gloom/doom, detail, words. But still keeps the charm, magic, and strong themes that make Marillier's books amazing.
