dark mysterious slow-paced

The rural apocalypse will not be metafictionalized

Did I get hoodwinked by Krasznahorkai again? Very likely. "The circles closes" my ass. Phenomenal prose though (impeccable, really), and quite "cinematic" too. I'm thinking back to that one fantastical scene where the intoxicated farmer continues playing the violin in a trance-like state while everyone else in the bar has gone to bed, whipping the elusive spiders into a frenzy (Here's one interpretation--maybe Krasznahorkai/Doctor is the violinist and his magnetic, rhythmic prose is the means by which he drives us spiders (the readers) into spinning out the elaborate webs of connective tissue between characters who might as well exist only as sketches in the dossiers maintained by the Doctor!) I really don't know why I thought I was promised a much more thrilling ride. I should manage my expectations better when I read more Krasznahorkai in the future.
