Loved! Absolutely loved! From the cover to the story to the narrator on the Audiobook, this was a PHENOMENAL read and I highly recommend to literally anyone who likes fantasy. This is also one of the best representations of Romantasy I think I have ever read, such a perfect blending of the two genres! Stunning!

This was a weird one for me because I absolutely loathed the first part of the book. The introduction where we learn about our characters was just so painful detached to me. I had such an impossible time connecting to the characters, but then suddenly, like magic, everything clicked. Moving in the second part of the book, I could not stop reading pretty much from page 100 to the end. The fighting sequences were magnificently written and so entertaining. I felt like there were actual stakes in the book and I was concerned for my beloved characters.
There was angst, drama, romance, action, and all of the emotions possible. AND THE TWIST. I really didn't see it coming and it ripped my heart out and stomped on it. Basically I loved it.
Unfortunately I do have to take off a half of a point for the beginning because I legitimately thought about DNFing it. I am so happy I didn't.

Is studio Ghibli was a book? It would be this. This world is absolutely beautiful. The writing is perfection. I will be back for anything this author writes. The love story was sweeping and epic but so was the sense of adventure. This is everything I love about reading.

But the audiobook is terrible and I don't recommend it unless you like cringey dramatized readings about something already slightly cringey (romance).
Surprisingly I dnf'ed this book twice before! TWICE! But I have an exam and needed to procrastinate.
Nevertheless, it exceeded my expectations and I'm starting to think I have a soft spot for Asian myth retellings/ Asian fantasy lit.
I'm not fond of details, I was immersed in this book and skipped a whole night's sleep for it, it should tell you how well written it has been!
