Great fast paced story. But it didn’t feel rushed or shallow.

This felt really boring, and the pacing was weird. It was slow, but also would skip years at a time.

I had stopped reading a lot of YA fantasy romance because they were all starting to read the same. This is a nice departure from the status quo. There is still a love angle and the tough but doesn’t understand why dudes like her female lead, but there was enough of our heroine working to better herself and self awareness of her strengths and flaws that I was fine with that element. The Chinese folklore and mythology give this story an element of ethereal fantasy that my interest was always piqued and just needed to find what happened next a lot.

And I also said “BITCH!” And “Girl what?!” A lot so that’s fun.

Only niggle was the pacing in the first two chapters, but I’m glad I stuck it out because it takes off right at chapter three.

This book is in my top two reads of the year. I don't know how it could possibly be improved upon, it's honestly perfection.

Took me ages to read this book not because it wasn’t good just cause there was a lot of content, and I started reading another in between. EASILY!! a five star book from me, from the characters to the romance and the development of Xingyin from a scared child to a strong character who could hold her own! LOVED THAT! also the fact that i was genuinely torn between Liwei and Wenzhi (lowkey even after he turned on her - SUE ME!). Never had a book where I didn’t feel drawn to only one love interest, which is impressive as i’m usually picky about these things. So so excited to read the sequel :D

Why was i on the verge of tears thus whole time
