Of course the first fantasy I've read in months that's left me desperately needing more , is the one fantasy I have to wait over a year to even get close to getting my hands on book two but THAT ENDING. I just... AHH.
I first heard about this book because of the special editions both Owlcrate and Fairyloot did for this book. I was intrigued with the premise of a character who has a rare power and has been on both sides of a conflict, so most people do not trust her. I wanted to buy a Fairyloot exclusive cover but I decided to listen to the audiobook first to see if I liked it.
I have very mixed opinions about this book. I thought that the concept of this book was interesting but wasn't executed that well. I quite liked the plot twists, but I wasn't invested in the story enough to truly care about what the twists meant. I didn't connect with any of the characters. I'm intrigued to see what will happen next, but I don't think I will pick up the next book. I liked the magic system, but I didn't think it was well developed. This may be due to the fact that I read the book on audiobook though. I really liked the beginning, but then it was a struggle to read the rest of the book, and I was listening on 3.5x speed. That's saying something. I think one of the main reasons why this book let me down was because I had high expectations, and they weren't met. For me, this book sounded good in theory but not that good in reality.
Overall, I don't really know how to conclude this review. I personally wouldn't recommend this book, but I can see other people enjoying it. I'm at a solid 4 with this. While I loved most of the book I just had a hard time with it.
Ren has magic that allows her to steal memories from someone, if she takes too many she leaves them hollow. The king wants her to use as a weapon and she just wants revenge for all he has done to the kingdom.
Ren must figure out how to access her memories and pick a side before it is too late.

I love the concept of this book, but really dislike the writing. The writing came across as messy and as if it had not been edited. The book feels rushed and like it was not completed or edited fully before being published. Will read the next book for the story though, and praying the writing gets better.

Not the best peace of fiction out there but I'll devour and love anything that's fictional, so that wasn't a problem for me.
The story was a little bit cliche, though. Some plot twists were, sadly, quite predictable, but it was still a good read! Even when I knew what's going to happen, I couldn't help but feel excided when the story was slowly revealing the truth~
Also connecting the dots with my friends and coming up with different theories was a huge fun factor for me!
Can't wait to read the second book!

Solid read. I really enjoyed the more Latin flavour and feel of the book, the plot was well constructed and paced along nicely. I thought the MC was a great lead and I was invested with her.
