Fascinating but occasionally difficult to read due to a lot of different hormones and drug injections being listed. I got slightly bogged down in the details sometimes. And the structure was a bit hard sometimes; I'm not sure if that was a translation issue or a me issue (probably the latter, I thought the translation was overall pretty great). Disturbing and honestly very weird, but incredibly informative. And due to the subject matter, less discussions of antisemitism than I was expecting.

An absolutely fascinating look at the incredibly screwed-up history of drug use in Nazi Germany. Hitler receiving daily injections of cocaine and animal hormones, methed-up child soldiers piloting suicide submarines… Ohler doesn’t quite land the transition from novels to non-fiction, and the English translation needs some work, but Blitzed was a wild ride from start to finish.

Moderate: Xenophobia
Minor: Torture and Homophobia
