This book is complicated for me, probably because I have a hard time seeing Arthur as a "bad guy" - I grew up watching Merlin and just cannot get that out of my head. But it's also hard for me because I feel like Bree is beaten down at every turn - at the end of Legendborn, we see she's the rightful king of the Table, and we automatically assume she's going to get the deference and power from that she deserves. And then, not only does that not happen, but she's barely in control of her own choices most of the book because of all the different pressures and directions she's being pushed and pulled in. I don't know how I feel about her cutting off her connection with her ancestors, and I think I'll have to wait for the next book to understand what that means. I do understand her resentment for having their choices so affect her own life, and to have their expectations (being their weapon, etc) being on her shoulders at every turn ON TOP of all the Legendborn Order pressures.
Surprisingly, I did not mind her attraction to Selwyn - I'm usually against these love triangle set ups because there's a feeling of betrayal when the girl is stuck between two guys, and has a thing with both of them without communication about it. But I'm seeing potential for an OT3 here that I DEFINITELY do not mind. And it makes so much sense when mirrored with the past relationships of Arthur, Merlin, and Lancelot.
I'm excited to see where this goes. The story I think is supposed to feel uncomfortable - it's about breaking cycles, change, and that's always hard. It's about confronting the parts of things that aren't what they were meant to be, that have turned from honorable pursuits and real loyalty, to petty political maneuverings and power plays in the case of the Order.

Nothing is happening. I can't take it anymore.

Took me a while to get through this one. Loved so many parts of it, kinda got bored through a bunch of other parts. But like. Selwyn.
