I don’t know that this couple is believable, or that I believe they will still be together five years from the end. The ending wrapped up too neatly with the major conflict between them being resolved too perfectly.
3 stars. this book was….fun. i loves the part when they were “fake dating” because it clearly wasnt fake which is exactly what i look for in this trope. i do feel however the the post was lost a bit in the middle there. the outside conflicts became none existent in the middle chunk. i also HATE the ending. james is so ….. UGH
James Callahan comes from a family of athletes, and is a senior at McKee University, having transferred there after a bad experience at his old school nearly cost him a career in the NFL. He has to repeat a writing course he previously failed, and he needs a tutor. At the same time, Beckett Wood needs to get her ex to back off, so she and James strike a deal: she will tutor him if he’ll agree to be her fake boyfriend.
TW: (the following are not in reference to the main couple or a main character) cheating, brief mentions of miscarriage, forced kiss, mentions of a suicide attempt
I got approved for the ARC of Wicked Serve (the upcoming fourth book in this series for those who don’t know), so I thought I’d binge the first three books first.
This book is mostly written in a way that is easy to follow. I say mostly because there is some football jargon I wasn’t able to grasp because I don’t know the first thing about football. Many of the filler scenes were cute (although some felt slow), and I loved the family aspect and how close-knit the Callahans are. I can tell I’m going to enjoy this series.
One thing I love about Bex and James is that they love passionately and deeply, in certain cases even to a fault. And I love how their story goes to show that love doesn’t have to be about giving up on the things that make you YOU, but sometimes it’s best to make compromises and meet your loved one halfway. And I think that’s goes with any kind of relationship, not just romantic ones.

2.25-2.5 stars ⭐️ very meh like typical sports romance, nothing crazy where i felt actually connected to them or really fell for them so

Absolutely loved Beckett’s and James’s relationship. Loved how he’d go to war behind her. I’m glad she was able to figure things out for herself.
medium-paced
Read this series out of order but I think this one kind of stands out as less connected even though it was the first book. The whole mom being a mess aspect was interesting. I think it was a sold middle of the pack sports romance.
