Put off reading this because the premise felt cheesy but I really enjoyed it!! Felt authentic and made me forget it was fiction. Finally broke me out of my mid book streak

My passion for music and my love for storytelling came together in this book and it led to something truly magical - this book is a true masterpiece ✨
I love music and pop culture, messy and flawed characters, complicated relationships, a little drama and storytelling that’s both gorgeous and unique, so this book was an instant five-star read for me. I knew it from the first page, as I just didn’t want to put it down as soon as I started. I'm hooked and completely invested, to the point that all I want to do now is either re-read it straight away or watch the TV adaptation.
What really impressed me is how thought-out the whole thing is. Firstly, the characters feel soooo real. I loved their depth, their flaws, the changing dynamics between all of them and how each identity and relationship shaped the band’s story in a different way. Each voice feels authentic and alive, especially Daisy's! She's such a raw, rebellious, magnetic character who's complicated in all the best ways. I also really appreciated that the women were portrayed as dynamic and powerful and that feminism was a big part of this story.
And the details in this book? WOW! There aren’t any loose ends or weird gaps. Every lyric, every interaction, every emotion, every bit of information about the music industry just makes this story feel incredibly real. The author clearly did their homework and research, leading to a story and atmosphere that's so vivid that I had to remind myself this wasn’t about a real band.
I’m also a sucker for an unconventional format and the interview/oral history style totally worked for me and I'd honestly go as far to say that it was perfect for this story. It’s fresh, immersive and it puts you right in the middle of the action.
I can’t and won't stop talking about this book, because it’s honestly one of the best reading experiences I’ve ever had. This book truly deserves all the love and recognition it's been getting.

I thought this was such an interesting way of telling this story. The audiobook was so unique. I was completely mesmerized by the whole story of this fictional band, and I honestly had to keep reminding myself this is fiction.
Graphic: Addiction, Alcoholism, Cursing, Drug abuse, Drug use
Moderate: Abortion
This is my third book from TJR and as always, I loved it. I love how she builds her characters, ho different and complex yet relatable are. It is safe to say this is one of my favorite books ever. I loooved the plottwists, the little details and the story in general.
Der Plot ist absolut großartig. Die Interview-Erzähweise hat mich aber nicht hundertprozentig abgeholt.
WOW.
This book was
Goddamn. Awful.
I had HIGH hopes for this one because it seemed well-received. I mean??? 4.2 stars on Goodreads and everyone on Facebook book clubs are raving over it ?? With a TV mini series adaptation??? This book must be IT!
IT. Was. Not.
I hated this one. Lol.
I loved Happy Place. I actually kept thinking about it after finishing it, even when I’m hip deep on duty. I actually at least loved Happy Place even though it was poorly written.
But this???
This was AWESOMELY written. It was amazing. I loved the oral transcript writing. The descriptions were just, chef’s kiss. I felt like I was there.
Not to mention — the addiction. This was the only redeeming part of this book. I loved how it successfully portrayed addiction. You have to go through it to actually know it. It definitely hit too close to home. I loved it.
What I absolutely cannot ever forgive is the infidelity that this book was trying to get on with.
I mean, I understand that Daisy was supposed to be this temptation symbol for Billy but???
It could have worked too if it were done platonically. It didn’t have to be romantic !!!
“I think I thought she was the most beautiful woman I’d ever seen in my life.”
I mean — ?? Dude just accept that you’re fucking cheating on your wife and leave her alone damn
Substance addiction is one thing but cheating on your partner, sober or not, emotionally or sexually, is not what addiction is about. You cheat because you goddamn cheat, not because someone is a temptation magnet.
That’s what’s tipping me off.
It’s supposed to pass as a Daisy temptation icon for former addicts but that’s just not how addiction works. Sorry. I just couldn’t tolerate that.
ALSO ????! THAT HIMYM ENDING LIKE ????
Come on dude they’re 60 fucking years old, what do you fucking expect would fucking happen damn
Like ?? If you’re going to end up giving them the green flag, you shouldn’t have been torturing the three of you from the get go ????? WHAT !!? It doesn’t make sense damn
This could have been better. It could have just been Billy being attracted to or idolizing Daisy but nOOO it went out the whole way of being actually falling in love with her aND THAT JUST ???? I AM SO IRRITATED
And AGAIN THAT ENDING
NEVER READING THIS BOOK AGAIN AND/OR GONNA WATCH IT
This book just sucked ugh so sorry TJR
I will however try her other books though
And thank you, because I have been on a high from romance books but this was an absolute nightmare of a disaster that I will not be holding another romance book again. Except Outlander. The only stability in the romance world that I may ever get.
God now I need me some Jamie and Claire to wipe this off my figurative tongue

Absolutely worth the hype. Like reading a VH1 “Behind the Music” for your favorite band.
