I really like his other series but this one was frankly boring and self-consciously 'quirky'.
Good read. Humour, an elephant, a mystery to solve and lots of local colour.
Will most definitely read the next in the series

Great book! Inspector Chopra is an honest, ethical retired officer due to his having a heart condition. He inherits a baby elephant who bonds with him and saves his life a couple of times. His wife Poppy is a funny strong-willed woman, and the adventure of this crime kept me interested and entertained.
There are chapters intermingled with the plot about Chopra's childhood, how he met Poppy, etc., all of which endear the reader to both of them. Poppy has a wild scheme at one point, which she doesn't end up following through with with, which added some lightheartedness to the book. I hope she'll continue to figure into the next books.
Looking forward to getting the next book in the series.

A lovely story with a little bit of everything- humor, action, mystery and wonderful characters (people and elephant). I will definitely continue the series to see the next adventures of Chopra, Poppy and Ganesha.
Do you love a good detective story. And I love that this is set somewhere else that is not the United States or Europe.
A murder mystery set in India, a nice light crime novel with some lovely descriptive writing and the fabulous addition of an elephant as a sidekick. A simple but compelling storyline with an interesting cast of characters.
Fun and funny mystery that does not ignore the class and economic issues of India. A good start to a series.
