So many words written to say nothing. Repetitive writing, bland and absolutely STUPID characters. I was bored the entire time and it felt like nothing happened at all in this book.

I liked the fairytale vibes a lot. Evangeline seems to be smarter than most YA protagonists, which I appreciate. Had a great time, an easy read and distinct characters!

Once Upon a Broken Heart feels like a fairytale, and I absolutely devoured it. Yes, some moments are unbearably cliché, and others had me wanting to snap the book closed and lob it across the room because of how bad they made me cringe (see basically every Jacks scene ever) however cringe might just be my middle name. Stephanie tried so hard to convince us that vampires aren’t the coolest and sexiest creatures alive, and I just wished she had let Jacks make that change but alas, I’ll just have to make do with him remaining a strange godlike figure who can somehow do so much and so little. The plot is what carries this book I believe, alongside the world building. The stories created and the myths of the worlds are gorgeously written and I find myself wishing it were all real, not to mention the concept of the Fates being trapped in a deck of cards - I mean come on, is that not the coolest thing ever? Nonetheless, Evangeline is possibly one of the stupidest main characters I have come across. I understand being wistful, and even being overwhelmingly naïve, but she’s actually just… stupid.

I will be reading the rest of the series.

While not quite the same vibes as Caraval, it's so fun to be back in this world of fates, magic, and stories with many layers of endings. This time we get more Jacks and we really get to know Evangeline Fox, who is having a pretty rough go of things. So rough in fact that she makes a deal with the Prince of Hearts, despite her better judgement.

What follows is a series of (mis)adventures which definitely kept my attention. One should always be careful what they wish for.

There's a lot going on and I'm eager to see where this series takes us. The story takes place after the events of the first series, so be sure to read Caraval, Legendary and Finale before starting this one if you don't want to be spoiled at all as to the outcome of those books.

This was pretty good but not as magical as Caraval. It did not allure me in as well as the Caraval series. Still, the plot was really good but I think it could have been improved. Also I still rlly like Jacks idk why but he seems like the villain who wasn’t born to be a villain yk? But yea pretty good!
