This book had me at page one.
The introduction to your main character was unique and had me on page one. Sarah is a character that is relatable, but in a way that is clear this fast pace world just sweeps you up. Adam and later Julian make for a whirlwind of love, emotions, betrayal, and fighting that just kept me turning the pages.
The ending has me searching for book two immediately.
I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.

"'When I’m with you, I feel-' he paused. 'Feral. Like I might lose control.'”

It has been a minute since I've read a truly enjoyable vampire romance. And this one did not disappoint.
I really thought I was going to love Adam, and for a hot second I did. There were a few moments at the beginning, after I got over him saving her that something wasn't sitting right about him. He was a little too conveniently good to be true. I also don't trust a single freaking thing this man says.
And then there's Julian. My God do I love an MMC that makes me want to punch them in the face after first meeting them. Then turning around and being the biggest marshmallow. Major Spike vibes (who might be my favorite vampire of all time). Like Sarah I didn't want to love him but damn did he make it hard not to. The secret keeping though and the flip-flopping I can do without.
Sarah is so sassy. Because we get her POV, we get to see her thought process and how she struggles with being a new vampire. The way she feels so torn between what her life as a human was and coming to terms with the circumstances of her being made feels real. And I think that's what I like most about her as a character.
I think there's a clear winner for me for who I want her to be with going into the second book, but it could really go either way I love how this story keeps me guessing.

Sarah has been dealing with the recent loss of both her parents. Feeling alone and disconnected from her sister Sarah just cannot seem to catch a break. But when she is attacked one night her life changes forever.
Reeling from the effects of her attack, Sarah can not seem to control her thirst for blood. Thankfully a devilishly handsome Vampire, Adam, swoops in to help her. However, he is keeping secrets from her. Secrets that could ultimately end their lives.
Such an entertaining, quick and spicy read. I fell in love with these characters and wanted to run away with Adam….no wait Julian…no wait Adam. My heart broke for Sarah during the “trial” and would have loved to see more of the vampire world. I hope that we can see more of that in book 2. And what a cliffhanger…I am secretly hoping that Sarah has some witch ancestry.

The Darkest Song (Book 1 of The Darkest Gift Duology) by Amy Atley is a paranormal romance novel. I love a good vampire romance and this was definitely one of those. It also had a lot of unexpected surprises throughout the book, ones even I did not see coming and I was thrilled by that. The plot was exciting with some twists and the characters fit well within the plot.
We have our FMC Sarah who starts out as human but after meeting Adam later becomes a new vampire. This is forbidden in the vampire world so it must be kept quiet. Adam also not everything he seems to be and then there is Julian.
A very good vampire read. Can not wait for book 2.
