This was a little predictable -- things I think were meant to be surprising didn't surprise me -- but lovely. The writing is really fantastic and every single character was fleshed out and beautifully sympathetic.
When Lucy was born, her mother, Miranda, gave her to foster parents shortly before she went insane.
Years later, Lucy is seventeen and must solve three impossible tasks before her own daughter is born, or risk losing her own sanity to the evil Elf King who has cursed all of the women in her family.
I liked the premise of this story, although I think Lucy's attempts to solve the task were an afterthought compared to other elements of the book.
Since the book features a rape and other sexual themes, this book is not appropriate for my sixth graders, but I can see many teen girls reading it. Lucy is an admirable, courageous person, and the support her foster family provides is touching.

This Nancy Werlin. This is a woman who knows what it is to live, to love, to be devastated and ecstatic and hopeless and confident, and everything between.
I really enjoyed this book. I thought that it had a unique plot and it really was engaging until the end. The three riddles though, really disappointed me. I had wanted the riddles to be a metaphor for something else, but unfortunately, they weren't. That resulted in the book having a lackluster ending. I would have given this book five stars if the ending had been better. I would recommend it though.
I really wanted to like this story, and for the most part I did, but there were a couple of things that just bothered me. For example, I feel like the romantic element was so great at the beginning of the story it was building so nicely, but somewhere in the middle it took about 10 steps forward and it just seemed rushed to me. I did like premise of the book and the intertwining of Scarborough Fair into this tale, but at the end of the book I was left wanting and I don't like when books leave me like that.
What a unique story! I enjoyed the blend of fantasy, mystery, and romance in this book. And the premise was really intriguing, especially since the three tasks were based on the song Scarborough Fair. With that said, I didn't really connect with Lucy for most of the book, and I felt like the romance between Lucy and Zach was a little forced. Also, Zach seemed a little too good to be true for a teenage boy. But I guess that's the beauty of fiction - we can make boys as perfect as we want them to be. :)
I wasn't really a fan of the audiobook narrator. Her tone of voice just seem so perky and positive while the character was going through horrible things. I don't know...maybe it's just the way I interpreted everything, but I felt like the tone should have been a bit more serious. On the other hand, I loved that each audiobook disc started and ended with an instrumental version of Scarborough Fair, and the narrator sang the song several times throughout the book.
Impossible wasn't my favorite, but I've read several great reviews.

This is an awesome book! I read young adult books and can't wait to recommend this to my students. The story of true love and how you can conquer anything together winds through this intriguing story of an ancient curse based on the sond "Scarbourough Fair:' Definitely put this on your to read list!!
Lucy is 17 and pregnant. She has just discovered that the women in her family are doomed to deliver a daughter at age 18, and then go mad. Lucy has nine months to break the curse.
Her only guide is the ballad "Scarborough Fair," which describes three impossible tasks she must accomplish: she must make a shirt without needles or seams; find an acre of land between the ocean and the shore; and plow that land with a goat's horn, sowing it all with one grain of corn.
No one has ever beaten the curse. But then again, no one else had the support of Lucy's foster parents or her neighbor, Zach. Can they solve the riddles in time to save Lucy?
This is a story about love and hope, and it's exceptional. The cover is also gorgeous. Highly recommended!!

The details really made this book. There was no jumping ahead and magically coming up with an answer. It was easy to feel like you were right there with the characters trying to think through everything with them.
